The Leela Palace Udaipur is an opulent, modern palace hotel, set on the banks of the tranquil Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Southern Rajasthan. You arrive in James Bond style, on a boat reminiscing the 1983 classic, Octopussy and are received with a shower of rose petals. Inside, royal furnishings evoke a bygone era of grandeur including silver thrones, crystal chandeliers, and copious amounts of black and white marble that cover its lavish interiors. The theme here is clearly one of ancient romance.
The world-renowned luxury resort designer Bill Bensley designed the Leela Palace Udaipur. Known for challenging the way how hotels are built, Bensley decorated its 80 rooms with a view to inspire guests. Believing that hospitality design is the fine art, he beautifully furnished the spacious rooms with artefacts and furniture that represent the handicrafts of the local area, yet offering all the modern amenities. The result is a mix of brick and tents preserving the surrounding environment.
Dining options at the Leela Palace Udaipur include a choice of traditional Indian and Western cuisine served in three separate venues. For relaxation there is a beautiful marble swimming pool and tented spa offering a range of remedies. In the surrounds are a number of carefully preserved 15th-century Hindu and Jain temples. Not-to-miss list includes an atmospheric sound and light show at the City Palace, and Sajjangarh, a crumbling but impressive hilltop castle.
