Taj Rambagh Palace: Royal Luxury in Jaipur

Taj Rambagh Palace in Jaipur offers its guests a taste of royal living – luxury and extravagance that was once the sole preserve of the kings. Its elegantly appointed rooms, marbled corridors and majestic gardens echo with history, and every corner has a story to tell. Once the "Jewel of Jaipur", this 19th-century Palace is now the among the most authentic palaces of India.

The reception lobby at Taj Rambagh Palace is beautifully decorated, all marble and warm timber, and with bowls of floating flowers in the centre. The rooms have four-poster beds and walk-in wardrobes; Suites feature high ceilings with crystal chandeliers, stone arches and stunning period furniture. Arched French windows open out onto the magnificence Mughal gardens and breath-taking Aravalli hills.

Luxurious dining options at Rambagh Palace, include four restaurants and the 'Polo Bar'. The 'Suvarna Mahal', its signature restaurant, retains the original palace dining hall built in Renaissance style and offers a royal Indian menu. The sprawling Taj Jiva spa offers an exclusive range of signature experiences based on traditional Indian practices. There is mini golf and tennis but find time to watch polo matches, once a favourite sport of the royals.

Stay Taj Rambagh Palace offers 85 rooms and suites. The Luxury & Palace Rooms, located on the top floor overlook the garden. The spacious Historical Suites are spread out throughout the hotel. All rooms have marble floors, exquisite Rajasthani artwork and sitting areas. The grand Royal Suites are incredibly opulent with marble and silk décor, some of which were once the personal chambers of the Maharaja of Jaipur and come with a personal butler. Being a heritage hotel room sizes can be different.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Taj Rambagh Palace. There is an interesting restaurant for families with kids; the Steam, set in an early 20th century train that serves pizza & Pasta. It is in fact a restored steam engine, complete with a recreated Victorian style station, which makes it quite the city favourite. Babysitting can be arranged upon request.

Dine Dining at Taj Rambagh Palace includes three multi-cuisine and Indian restaurants, two bars and several venues. The Suvarna Mahal, the original palace dining room in Renaissance style has a royal Indian menu. Our favourites are Lal Maas (spicy red meat) and Mutton Nihari (non-spicy). The Rajput Room is an all-day-dining restaurant ideal for breakfast, or enjoy an afternoon tea in the airy palace Verandah Café. Evenings are best spent at the stylish Polo Bar that attracts Polo players when Polo is being played nearby.

Relax After a day of negotiating the labyrinthine city streets, Rambagh Palace offers a decadent respite for tired feet. Book an Indian aromatherapy treatment at Jiva Spa. Its spa suite tents are patterned after a 16th-century Mughal encampment. The billowing pavilions contain handwoven carpets, royal pennants, and love swings with soak tubs and showers. The exclusive lounge areas create a glorious atmosphere that was once the privilege of the maharajas and maharanis.

Experience Adjacent to the Rambagh Palace, is the Rajasthan Polo Club where polo matches are regularly held and are well worth attending. Originally formed in 1918, its members primarily comprised of Jaipur’s royal family. This distinguished membership helped popularise the sport in India and later the British contributed in promoting the game around the world. Rajasthan Polo Club remains to be India’s premier Polo Centre and passionate riders would like to visit at least once.

Location Taj Rambagh Palace is located close to the walled city of Jaipur, known for spectacular forts, and shopping bazaars. Rambagh Palace, once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur is now richly restored with opulent interiors, offering its guests an experience befitting royalty.

Getting There Most major airlines fly to India’s main airports. Delhi is the best point of arrival for Rajasthan and north India. Regular scheduled flights connect Jaipur with Delhi, Mumbai, Ahemdabad, Udaipur and Jodhpur. It's a 20-minute drive from Jaipur airport to Taj Rambagh. Alternatively, it's a 5-hour drive from Delhi.

When to go Rajasthan, the desert state of India is largely hot but unlike the rest of India, has a much longer tourist season. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June and is the hottest season. Monsoon arrives in July and extends until September, is a good time to travel to Rajasthan, since it never rains there. Post monsoon, October to November and right through winter months of December to March are perfect for travelling through Rajasthan.
