Ramathra Fort, Sapotara, Rajasthan | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Ramathra Fort is a small fort-palace hotel, set near Sapotra village between Agra and Ranthambore National Park. The 350-year-old fort, originally built by the Maharaja of Karauli is the ancestral home of Ravi and Gitaniali who have lovingly resorted the property into a wonderful heritage hotel. Perched atop a hill and overlooking the nearby Kalisil lake, it offers a perfect holiday destination to explore the nearby rural villages, the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary and Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve.

Accommodation at Ramathra Fort comprises of just twelve tents, rooms and suites. All are elegantly designed with spacious bedrooms, separate sitting areas and private or shared outdoor spaces. The two suites on the first floor enjoy more privacy with their own private terraces and plunge pools. Public spaces include alcoves and intimate spaces to relax. There is also a regal dining room but more often, delicious meals are served al fresco at various locations around the fort.

Guests at Ramathra Fort enjoy rural landscape, exclusivity from the modern, rushed world and peaceful, silent spaces disturbed only by the sounds of desert birds. Mornings are spent in jeep safaris either to the Bharatpur bird sanctuary or Ranthambhore National Park. Afternoons are filled with a siesta under an age-old tree at the edge of the nearby lake. Come late afternoon and it’s time for a dip in the plunge pool followed with lamp-lit dinner on a terrace in the cool desert breeze.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
