The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort is a luxurious urban resort, set in 20 acres of gardens on the edge of the Siswan Forest Range in the foothills of the outer Himalayas near Chandigarh. Guests enter through a sequence of landscaped courtyards, surrounded by arches and colonnaded verandahs. Inside, all is symmetrical and ornamental; towering brass-framed doors, look out onto an avenue of fountains, streams and reflection pools that is reminiscent of distant glorious past.
Housed within this Rajput and Mughal style Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort, are 60 rooms, tents and villas. Of these, there are 15 colonial tented encampments which consist of 75sq m palatial air-conditioned canvas tents, with teak floors, lavish bathrooms and their own 11m private pools and terraces. For those who prefer more robust walls, there are 45 haveli-inspired buildings arranged in clusters of six around stone courtyards with fountains at their centres.
Surrounding the Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort are manicured gardens, visited by a variety of birds best explored during the cool morning walks. Guests can explore local villages or take bike rides through forest trails. Day tours must include two attractions. The Capitol Complex, a concentration of buildings by Le Corbusier, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the deeply human art of Nek Chand’s Rock Garden. Back at the hotel there is a spa and a swimming pool to relax.
Amenities
Stay The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort features 60 rooms, tents and villas. These range from Premier Rooms to Royal Tents, Luxury Villas to Royal Forest Tents; both of which have their own private pools. All rooms, tents and villas are decorated with regal and intricately carved furniture, hand painted frescoes and fitted with top-of-the-line amenities. Luxurious presidential suites are more like mini-mansions, with multiple rooms, fireplaces, gardens, and private plunge pools.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Oberoi Sukhvilas. There are no inter-connecting rooms, however families can book a cluster of 2 rooms with a common door. There is a separate pool and a play area for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, on request.
Dine Dining options at the Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort include Anant Mahal, an all-day dining multi-cuisine restaurant, with an indoor and al fresco seating. Elaborately decorated with chandeliers and huge doors that open out onto the gardens. There is also the Raunaq Bar, a wonderful place for an aperitif or a nightcap. a grandly decorated space with walls adorned with hand-painted portraits of battles and warriors, serving an array of beverages and delectable snacks.
Relax The spa is a particular highlight of the Oberoi Sukhvilas, with each guest receiving a personal spa therapist and a wide choice of treatments, including hydrotherapy facilities, Ayurvedic therapies and relaxation sessions. There is an infrared sauna, vitality pool, Turkish Hammam and a Roman Tepidarium. Yoga and mindfulness sessions are also offered alongside programmes for stress management, weight management and holistic wellness.
Experience Chandigarh is known for its well-planned infrastructure and architecture, some of which were designed by Le Corbusier, which includes the UNESCO World Heritage Capitol Complex. The concierge at the Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort will be happy to organise your city tour, which will include such sites as the Nek Chand’s Rock Garden, the Hussain Rose Garden and the Moghul era Palaces of Pinjore Garden. Further afield, you can visit Siswan Dam or take a relaxing birdwatching tour.
Location The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort & Spa is located in the Siswan Forest Range in Chandigarh, northwest India. The resort is near the foothills of the Sivalik range of the Himalayas.
Getting there The resort is only 45 minutes from Chandigarh Airport which offers flights to and from many international airports.
When to go Chandigarh's salubrious climate helps make it a year-round destination. Though Chandigarh has pleasant climate throughout the year, it experiences cold winters. The temperatures can drop to sub-zero conditions during the peak winter season. The best time to visit Chandigarh would be October to November and from March to May. It is advisable not to visit Chandigarh during monsoons as the place has a history of having landslides every now and then.
