Kaafila Camps, Central India | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Kaafila Camps offers a once-in-a-lifetime journey, showcasing unexplored reaches of Central India for the discerning traveller. Recreating the ancient concept of ‘Kaafila’, meaning a caravanserai in Hindi, guests will travel through remote parts of the fascinating country in true nomadic style, with our camp in toe. During the day, while the guests explore the ancient forts and tread through jungles in search of a tiger or leopard, the staff would set up tent and be waiting with a hot cup of tea.

The journey with the mobile Kaafila Camps begins in Delhi with a short flight to Khajuraho via Varanasi. The Khajuraho temples are well-known for the erotic sculptures, but closely connected with their history is the impregnable fortress of Kalinjar, once a stronghold during the Bundelkhand and Chandela dynasties. Here you will discover hidden gems; tombs, temples and dilapidated mansions in the rugged Vindhya Hills and set within a jungle forest, your luxury camp.

Continue your nomadic journey to Panna National Park and then, through the beautiful countryside of Bundelkhand with a picnic lunch in the shade of Baldeogarh Fort. Spend the day exploring the walled-town of Chanderi and discover the medieval architecture protected by its hill-top citadel. Then before the day ends, return to your Kaafila Camp for a well-deserved rest. Drinks are served around a campfire where stories are shared and delicious meals are served under the star-lit sky.

Stay Kaafila Camps comprises of just four tents. All are designed with fine Indian fabrics, showcasing some of the great textile traditions of north India. Rooms are minimally furnished with mobile furniture set on a canvas ground-sheet and ensute bathrooms have wooden platforms with hot and cold water supplied in buckets. Each tent opens out on to a covered sitting area with table and chairs perfect for a drink after the days adventure.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Kaafila Camps but there are no specific facilities available. There are no inter-connecting rooms and we feel this camp is more suitable for older children with an interest in trekking and local history.

Dine Meals at Kaafila Camps are served in the main tent and are included in your booking. This includes tea and coffee during the day and Indian alcoholic beverages. Breakfast is a leisurely affair and includes a mix of European and Indian traditional favourites. Lunch is light on the palate with salads and soups and candle dinner is Indian cuisine prepared with fresh locally sourced ingredients.

Relax In the main tent at the Kaafila Camps, are comfortable sofas with a small library of books and magazines where you can relax. There are also places where you can charge cameras and batteries. Tea and coffee is readily available with small snacks. In the surrounds are lovely walking trails where you can meditational walks.

Experience Travelling with Kaafila Camps is journey-of-a-lifetime through rural India. The two weeks itinerary offers the chance to explore the unexplored. Visit Kalinjar and discover the wildlife at the Panna National Park, the architectural gems of Chanderi and Bhopal and explore the city of Maheshwar, set along the sacred Narmada River. Activities include visits to temples, mosques and forts. Jungle hikes and wildlife watching and spending nights watching the stars.

Location The beauty of Kaafila is that you can discover some extraordinary locations in India. Each expedition is unique, but in general they operate in central India from November to February and in the region of Ladakh from June to August.

Getting there You will be transferred to the camp by private transfer.

When to go In central India the camp is open from November to February when the weather is warm and dry. From June to August guests can camp in the region of Ladakh, a barren yet beautiful region located in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
