Ratan Vilas is a heritage hotel, set just outside the walls of central Jodhpur in Western Rajasthan. Built by Maharaja Ratan Singhji in the 1920s, it is a beautiful villa with delicately carved exteriors and regale interiors. The villa is still owned by his grandson, Maharaj Bharat Singhji and serves both as a family home as well as a guesthouse. Situated close to old Jodhpur, it forms a perfect base from which to explore the city, its historical sites and the surrounding desert.
Housed within this heritage villa, Ratan Vilas has 22 air-conditioned rooms. All are different in size and shape and independently decorated with family memorabilia, beautiful Indian fabrics and antique furniture. The in-house restaurant serves delicious meals prepared with recipes from the royal Rajasthani kitchens. Breakfasts are served outside in the courtyard gardens and lunches and dinners tend to be buffet style Indian fare with some western favourites.
This property is best suited for guests who prefer plenty of character, local culture and appreciate true Rajput hospitality. Ratan Vilas is situated slightly out of town but it offers quieter surrounds than the walled-city and provides easy access to nearby historical sites such as Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Mandore Gardens and take a jeep safari to explore the surrounding desert. The hotel also features a lovely blue-tiled pool for relaxing when not exploring the city.

These are spread out on two floors around a courtyard with a shaded veranda. These are furnished with period furniture, hand block printed bedspreads and black-and-white photographs of the royal family. All rooms have intricate floor tiles or rich carpets and ensuite bathrooms, some with bathtubs. Simply but aesthetically designed, the rooms exude old-world charm with a blend of modern amenities including air-conditioning.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Ratan Vilas. The nine Superior rooms are spacious enough to accommodate one extra bed and some larger rooms can even fit-in two extra beds. The in-house restaurant is flexible with timings and catering to specific dietary requirement for children and there is lots of space and activities to do to keep the children occupied.
Dine The in-house restaurant at the Ratan Vilas offers a range of Continental, Indian and Chinese dishes. Breakfast is a continental buffet with fruit, porridge, cereals, eggs cooked to order and toast. Lunches are a mix of Indian and Western dishes while dinners are focussed on Indian menu which is extensive with plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. They also have a Tandoor oven for making delicious Indian breads or naans.
Relax There are plenty of spaces within Ratan Vilas, shaded verandas and lovely courtyard to relax. There is also an outdoor swimming pool with loungers. Guests can take leisurely walks to surrounding villages and enjoy their hospitality.
Experience Nestled in the centre of Rajasthan, Jodhpur is one of the most historic cities in India. Ratan Vilas can organise a tour of this ‘Blue City’ known for its vibrant egg-blue homes that surround its famous Mehrangarh Fort. A short walk from the fort is Jaswant Thada, a spectacular memorial for Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. In the surrounds are Mandore Gardens peppered with stone-carved temples and the scenic Kaylana Lake. Take a jeep safari for a desert experience and see its varied wildlife.
Location Ratan Vilas is located just 3km from the airport in a quiet garden. From the hotel you are just a stone's throw away from the city's main attractions.
Getting there Fly into Delhi's Indira Gandhi International followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Jodphur. It's a 15-minute drive from Jodphur Airport to Ratan Vilas.
When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
