Samode Haveli is a luxury heritage property, set within the old walled city of Jaipur. Originally built by Rawal Sheo Singh, a Prime Minister in the royal court, the 150-year-old grand house has been intimately restored to offer a charming yet rustic stay in Jaipur. Inside, are fabulous frescoes and murals, leafy gardens, shaded verandas and terraces overlooking the gardens. Located in the heart of the city, it forms a great base from which to explore Jaipur’s main forts and palaces.
There are 39 rooms and suites in Samode Haveli, all of which are decorated in traditional warm colours, creating an exotic, yet comfortable atmosphere. Expect mosaic floor, gilded arches, high ceilings and ancient artwork, antiques and artefacts. Family portraits and hunting photographs hang on walls, offering a glimpse of old royal life style. For a real royal experience, guests can book the Sheesh Mahal ('place of mirrors') whose ceiling and walls and intricately covered with mirrors.
The royal dining room at the Samode Haveli is worth visiting. Every inch of the wall is gloriously covered with beautifully hand-painted murals, in Rajasthani miniature art that evolved here during the 16th-century. Traditional Rajasthani dishes are served here or al fresco on the terrace. For relaxation there is a beautiful swimming pool and state-of-the-art spa. The hotel can easily arrange sightseeing tours to see the city’s stunning palaces, forts, temples and gardens.
Amenities
Stay Samode Haveli offers 39 rooms and suites. All are individually decorated in a traditional style and adorned with hand painted wall hangings and hand-crafted Rajasthani furniture. The most opulent are the two Sheesh Mahal Suites (palace of mirrors), which are covered in mirror-work and have grand archways and small sitting areas. Some rooms have private courtyards and balconies looking out over the lovely gardens and ensuite bathrooms with roll-top baths as well as showers.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Samode Haveli. The Haveli Suites, situated in a converted building beyond the back lawn are spacious enough to accommodate an extra bed and are more suitable for families. There is also one family-friendly duplex, with a single bedroom downstairs and a king size bedroom upstairs (both with ensuites), plus a balcony. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.
Dine The inhouse restaurant at the Samode Haveli serves a choice of traditional Rajasthani cuisine and international flavours. Rajasthani dishes are prepared from recipes of the royal kitchens that date back centuries and overseen by the owner Yadavendra Singh who is passionate about regional cuisine. Meals are served in the regal dining room, or al fresco on the terrace or central courtyard. There is a lively bar offering a range of spirits and cocktails often buzzing with local crowd.
Relax Facilities at the Samode Haveli include a large outdoor swimming pool surrounded by traditional Indian day beds and a wading pool for children. There's also a fitness centre, Jacuzzi and steam room. Within the hotel are alcoves with comfortable seating, central courtyard and gardens with lovely shades spaces to relax. Rooms with terraces can enjoy views of the surrounding town and Nahargarh Fort in the distance.
Experience The historic city of Jaipur is well known for its pink stone structures including the Wind Palace (Hawa Mahal). Samode Haveli can arrange city tours to include Amber and Nahargarh Forts and explore its several bustling bazaars selling traditional arts and crafts. Also visit the city's 18th-century royal observatory, Jantar Mantar and Sanganer, famous for its Jain temples. In the surrounds is the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary, home to leopards, jungle cats, tigers, hyenas and birdlife.
Location Samode Haveli is located on Gangapole road, in the heart of the walled city of Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan in North India. Jaipur is well-connected to most of the major cities of India by road, rail or air.
Getting there Delhi Indira Gandhi is the nearest international airport. Jaipur Sanganer (1-hour domestic flight from Delhi) is the closest airport to Samode Haveli and is 10km, a 20-minute drive away.
When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
