Taj Pashan Garh

Pashan Garh Lodge is located near Panna National Park in Madhya Pradesh. It forms part of the tiger reserve circuit created by andBeyond and the Taj group, joining other comfortable lodges in surrounding parks. The lodge, infused with local sandstone is furnished and block printed black silks and cotton lace chandeliers creates a contemporary look of local ‘Haveli’ or private mansion with a sense of sanctuary and coolness.

Accommodation in Pashan Garh Lodge features 12 luxury cottages of stone walls and tiled roofs surrounded with scrub jungle. The spacious rooms have glass walled bathrooms with views of the forest. The interior design has just enough attention to detail to make you feel special and make others feel envious. On the terrace, the maachan (roof-top space to rest in the Indian summer) is embellished with a racy pottery design inspired by the temples of nearby Khajuraho.

The main guest areas at the Pashan Garh Lodge include an infinity swimming pool perched over the rocky outcrop. Safaris are conducted by experts trained by andBeyond. Breakfast is generally in the park, lunches under a huge mahua tree or veranda. In the evenings, the camp takes on a romantic cast, when candles and lamps are lit around the dining area. Dinner, as in all Taj properties is wonderfully crafted with different takes on traditional Indian classics.

Stay Pashan Garh (meaning ‘Stone House’) is located close to Panna National Park. It has just 12 luxury cottages, the design inspired by the dry-packed stone architecture of the region. The interiors are stony and rough hewn, with white marble and leather furniture. A spacious central courtyard celebrates local Haveli design, with its sense of sanctuary and coolness. Air-conditioned rooms have spacious bedrooms with a King Size bed and a separate sitting area. Attached is a simple but elegant bathroom and a private verandah with views of the forest and waterhole.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Pashan Garh Lodge but there are no specific facilities available for them. However, the lodge has Wild Kids@Taj programmes & baby-sitting services for young kids can be arranged on request.

Dine Dining in Pashan Garh features delicious Indian and western cuisine. No menu is ever the same and great care is taken by the chef to celebrate the unique flavours and styles of the region. The day starts with hot tea and coffee and a delicious pre-game drive breakfast spread. The butlers carry additional snacks for each guest to take along for the game drive. For lunch, guests have the option being served on the veranda or being escorted to a nearby rural setting near the park gate for a picnic.

Safari Although, Panna National Park is one of India's smallest parks, it probably has some of the most beautiful landscapes and is well known for its wild cats, including leopard and other species. The Ken River, which flows through the reserve, provides a life line to the park's wildlife, and has mugger crocodile and rich birdlife. The day at Pashan Garh Lodge includes morning and afternoon game drives. Meals are at the camp under a huge Mahua tree and there is a pool to relax in the afternoon. After dinner, it’s time for star gazing and putting camera traps.

Experience In the afternoons, we took leisurely walks in the nearby forest accompanied by the Pashan Garh lodge naturalist and saw a variety of wildlife including; monkey, nilgai, sambar, chital, warthogs, hyenna, wild dog, river crocodiles and a variety of birds. There is also a nice village nearby, worth visiting. The World Heritage Site of Khajuraho, with its 10th century Hindu temples is a short distance away.

Location Pashan Garh Lodge is located near the Panna National Park and lies close to the Khajuraho temples. Although the Panna National Park is known for abundance of wildlife, it is not primarily a tiger reserve. Those seeking to view a tiger can combine Pashan Garth with safari lodges in the Bandhavgarh National Park.

Getting There Most major airlines fly to India’s main airports. Delhi is the best point of arrival for Rajasthan and north India. There are daily flights from Delhi and Varanasi to Khajuraho, which is the nearest airport. The drive from Khajuraho to Pashan Garh takes approximately an hour.

When to go The park remains closed between July and 15 October due to monsoon. The best time to travel to India is between September and March. The best time to visit the Panna National Park is between January to May. The winter months of Nov-Dec-Jan is best for bird watching and is usually the preferred time for the foreign tourists but wildlife photographer’s like to visit during the summer months between February and April or May when sighting tiger is easier.
