Samode Palace, Jaipur, Rajasthan | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Samode Palace is a heritage luxury hotel, set in the rugged Aravalli hills, about an hour’s drive north of Jaipur. Owned by the royal family of Samode, this 16th-century palace is a perfect example of Rajput-Moghul architecture, with filigree-edged archways, a succession of courtyards and frescoed walls. Beautifully renovated, this opulent palace hotel is perfect for travellers who prefer to stay in a rural atmosphere, offering peace and solitude and yet be close to the city’s tourist highlights.

Accessed through the traditional arched gateway, Samode Palace houses 43 spacious, air-conditioned rooms and suites. All feature elaborate hand-painted walls, marble mosaic-patterned floors covered with cotton rugs and latticework windows. Guests have a choice of two restaurants with buffet or a la carte menu, serving Rajasthani, Indian and Western dishes. The beautiful bar with comfortable seating has a large wine cellar with a selection of fine wines.

There is a superb marble and mosaic rooftop swimming pool with views over the Aravalli mountain range. For ultimate relaxation, there is Samode Spa offering a range of Ayurvedic therapies. Take a tour of the Samode Palace and see its intricately painted Darbar Hall where erstwhile kings gave audiences to their subjects and the magnificent Sheesh Mahal, or hall of mirrors. In the surrounds is the Samode village, the hilltop Samode fort and opportunities camel and horse riding safaris.

All are uniquely designed with marble flooring, woodcarvings and decorated in warm colours with bright Rajasthani textiles and traditional artefacts. All have air-conditioning, a balcony or patio and luxurious en-suite bathrooms with claw-footed bathtubs. Interestingly, archival photographs of royal ladies (not men) dressed in elegant sarees, pearls and diamonds, decorated the walls.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Samode Palace but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting can be arranged upon request.

Dine There are two restaurants at the Samode Palace. The 'fine dining' restaurant serves a regal feast of Rajasthani and Indian dishes with some European favourites and is open only for dinner. The all-day ‘multi-cuisine’ restaurant serves buffet lunch and à la carte for dinner which includes vegetarian Indian dishes and Rajasthani Thali as well as some fast foods like pizza and French fries. Breakfast is served alfresco in the cool central courtyard surrounded by the gardens.

Four ultimate relaxation there is Samode spa with three treatment rooms and both male and female therapists. There is also a compact gymnasium with treadmill, rowing machine and a cycle but most guests prefer to take leisurely walks around the surrounding hills (when the leopard is not looking).

Experience Guests at the Samode Palace can explore its exquisite Durbar Hall, the Diwan-i-Khas (halls of private audience) and the Sheesh Mahal (hall of mirrors). Take a leisurely walk through cobbled lanes of Samode village, known for its arts and crafts, ancient havelis and for understanding rural life in Rajasthan. Activity enthusiasts can trek up to the hilltop fort for breathtaking views across the valley and also take camel or elephant safaris or horse riding adventure into the surrounding hills.

Location Samode lies in the State of Rajasthan in North India. Located about 42 km. north-west of Jaipur, Samode Palace is reached by a short road from Chandwaji where it branches off the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

Getting there Fly to Delhi Indira Gandhi International followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Jaipur. The Airport in Jaipur is a 1-hour drive from Samode Palace. Alternatively, you can drive from Delhi, a journey of 5-hours.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
