Shiv Niwas Palace is a luxurious heritage hotel, set in the heart of Jaipur in central Rajasthan. Originally built in the 1700s as a guesthouse for visiting guests and dignitaries of the Mewar royal family, it was later extended to provide luxurious accommodation for discerning travellers visiting Jaipur. This includes Roger Moore who stayed here during the filming of the James Bond Film Octopussy. Centrally located, it forms a perfect base from which to explore the Jaipur city.
Once reserved exclusively for royal guests, Shiv Niwas Palace now offers 36 luxurious rooms and suites. All are elegantly decorated in the old regal style, with marble floors, rich carpets and gilded mirrors. Splash out on the Imperial suite with ornate checkerboard floors and a working fountain right in the bedroom, or book the Terrace Suites with unparalleled views of the Pichola Lake and the surrounding countryside. Whichever room you take, you are bound to experience life king size.
Three elegant restaurants at the Shiv Niwas Palace serve delicacies from the Mughal, Continental and authentic Rajasthani cuisines. For relaxation there is a beautiful pool situated in the centre of the main courtyard. During the day, explore forts and palaces including Nahargarh fort and take an elephant ride to the hilltop Amber Fort known for bejeweled walls in the Hall of Mirrors. One day, visit the bazaars of Jaipur selling handicrafts, jewels and Rajasthani miniature paintings.

Stay Shiv Niwas Palace offers 36 luxurious rooms and suites. All are richly decorated, reminiscing the lifestyle of Thakurs and the royals of the golden era. Expect hand carved, period style furniture, four-poster beds, heavy curtains with marble floors and bathrooms with twin vanities and claw-footed tubs. Portraits of the royal family and large antique gilt mirrors hang on walls. And all the suites, enjoy a mesmerizing natural panorama of Udaipur.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Shiv Niwas Palace but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.
Dine Guests at Shiv Niwas Palace have a choice of three restaurants on the mainland and another two restaurants on Jagmandir island. These include Paantya, a multi-cuisine restaurant with antique chandeliers and latticework, serving Mughal, Continental and authentic Rajasthani cuisine. Sunset Terrace restaurant offers dramatic views of Udaipur's most famous landmarks and Surya Darshan Bar is a perfect destination for sundowners while watching the hills that ring Lake Pichola.
Relax Shiv Niwas Palace boasts access to all the amenities available to the City Palace Complex. These include access to solar and motor boats for day cruises around the lake and a luxury spa offering a range of western and Indian therapies. There is also a stunning pool and a health centre with Squash courts. Guests can request to see the special Maharana Mewar Library and browse through the fine jewellery and souvenirs at Anmol Gems. In the evenings the Palace Band will keep you entertained.
Experience Jaipur is a fascinating city known for its forts and palaces including the erstwhile Shiv Niwas Palace. For history buffs, the City Palace (Maharaja of Jaipur’s residence) built in the early 1700s, is a time capsule depicting the life of Indian Maharajas. Hawal Mahal (Palace of Winds) is known for its beehive or honeycomb façade with many ‘jharokhas’ or latticework windows. The world heritage site of Jantar Mantar comprises of structures that help calculate accurate time of the day.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
