Forsyth Estate is a small, intimate wildlife lodge set in 44 acres of reclaimed jungle on the edge of the Satpura Tiger Reserve. Built using traditional methods, it is designed in clusters of 3 cottages to provide optimum privacy and views across the surrounding brush and scrub. Occupying just 10% of total land, the owner’s emphasis here is to form an intimate connection with local communities and wildlife in an effort to provide guests with an authentic wilderness experience.
There are just 12 cottages at the Forsyth Estate, all with spacious rooms and large windows to take in the outdoor views. All rooms are decorated with traditional antique furniture and colourful rugs. The central lodge is where everyone congregates after safari drives for a drink and houses the dining room with a large tree-trunk table. There is also a lounge where naturalist briefings take place, an eco-friendly swimming pool and outdoor spaces in shade around the lodge to relax.
Satpura National park is one of the least known and least visited park in Central India. The advantage is that you can watch more wildlife at your own convenience without being disturbed. There are two daily game drives which are included in your stay at Forsyth's Lodge. The park is a great place to see sloth bear and other wildlife including sambar, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, bison, wild boar and wild dog etc. The park is not the best for seeing tiger and leopard but they are occasionally seen.
Amenities
Stay Forsyth's Lodge has just 12 simple and comfortable cottages. All are built in traditional style using local materials, polished concrete floors with colourful rugs, huge plush beds and hand-crafted wooden furniture. French doors open out onto a veranda with a comfy daybed and a plantation chair. Some rooms have another double bed on rooftop, perfect for those who like to sleep in natural surroundings. Contemporary style spacious bathrooms have a power shower.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Forsyth's Lodge. It offers a 3-day 'Junior Rangers Programme' that teaches children about wildlife and allows them to learn skills of the jungle; such as handling binoculars and telescopes, tracking animals, and identifying various species by using field guides. Children will also explore the jungle by jeep, boat or on foot with enthusiastic naturalists. One completion of the course, they receive a Junior Rangers certificate.
Dine Meals at the Forsyth's Lodge are served in various locations around the grounds, in the shade under trees or by the pool. Breakfast is generally taken as picnic with hot tea, as game drives leave early in the morning. Lunch and dinner is primarily Indian, cooked by a local women over outdoor, earthen oven. Evening cocktails are around a roaring bonfire, followed by dinner under the stars or in the elegant dining hall with a huge, polished tree trunk table. In brief, expect authentic Indian cuisine.
Relax In between the game drives, guests at Forsyth's Lodge prefer to cool off in the eco-friendly pool or relax under a tree with a book from the library. Some rooms have rooftop double beds, but there are lots of spaces within the lodge to relax.
Experience There are two daily safari at Forsyth's Lodge to Satpura National Park and guests have options to choose their mode of transport; jeep, elephant, canoe, bicycle or walking. Common wildlife seen in the area include deer, sambars, gaurs, nilgais, boars, crocodiles and monkeys. Hopefully you'll see a tiger, but if you don’t, it doesn’t mean that the tiger hasn’t seen you. Night safaris are a thrilling way to find rarely seen nocturnal species like owls and civets to biggies like leopards and sloth bears.
