The Lodhi

The Lodhi is a luxury urban resort, set within seven acres of landscaped gardens, near the Lodhi Gardens and the buzzing Nizamuddin neighbourhood of New Delhi. The exterior looks not unlike a neat Soviet-era administration block, but move inside and you find yourself in a cool-slick palace, inspired by Delhi's classic Mughal architecture and encapsulated by its pure elegance. Located within ten minutes’ drive from the city centre, it forms an excellent base from which to explore the city.

Located in an elegant two-winged structure, The Lodhi features just 40 rooms and suites. The entry-level category is immense, and the Deluxe range from 90 sqm with a private balcony to two-bedroom suites that are twice the size, with views of the city and the golf course. But the real highlight is the plunge pool, lined with jade-green Khareda stone and flanked by a large daybed, on the private terrace. The bathroom facilities include twin vanities with quality toiletries.

Facilities at The Lodhi include three great dining options; an amazingly well-presented spa and a health centre. For relaxation there is swimming pool and spa as well as tennis and squash courts. In the surrounds is Delhi Golf Club (for members) and loads of historical sites, including the famous Lodhi gardens, Humayun’s Tomb and Khan market, a must for foodies and shoppers alike. One day visit the nearby Lodi Art, India's First Art District, trying to beautify the streets of Delhi.

Stay The Lodhi offers 40 rooms and suites. Starting at a whopping 50 sqm, each of the rooms are designed in contemporary style, using local materials include fabrics and Khareda stone for floors and covered by handmade rugs. A separate dressing area is hidden by a sliding screen, and a peaceful terrace leads to a private plunge pool and day bed. The eight two-bedroom suites have in addition a central foyer area, an extra bedroom and a combined living and dining area.

In addition, there are a collection of 28 Lodhi suites housed in a separate five-story building. Suites come in one, two, or three-bedroom configurations, all with ample living and dining space, and with the largest featuring a two-story terrace.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at The Lodhi. However, there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged upon request.

Dine The ELAN is the main restaurant and Bar at The Lodhi. It offers an eclectic range of fresh and seasonal options with an emphasis on Indian, Mediterranean and South East Asian dishes. Nearby is the Indian Accent that has won many awards for its creative cuisine, and has been rated India’s best restaurant. It is headed by Chef Manish Mehrotra who mixes different flavours and riffs on Indian street food and favourites. The Pool Café offers a seasonal menu ranging from burgers to salads.

Relax Luxuriate at the swimming pool or pursue a completely refreshed state at the Lodhi Spa. It offers a wide range of therapies and rituals ranging from ayurvedic to contemporary international treatments. The eight spacious private rooms include steam, bathtub, day beds and massage tables. There are separate male and female hammams with plunge pools of varying temperatures. There is also a fitness centre, a Pilates studio, as well squash and tennis courts.

Experience Guests at The Lodhi are well placed to visit the nearby Humayun’s Tomb, built in Persian style and surrounded by the fiercely symmetrical Mughal gardens. Further afield are The Red Fort, Jama Masjid and the chaotic Chandni Chowk bazaar. Experience the colourful local markets including Dilli Haat, which in comparison to Chandni Chowk is more organized and visit some of the city's many art museums, and visit the Lodi Art, the Indian open-air public art district.

Location Located on Lodhi Road in the heart of New Delhi, just south of the Delhi Golf Course and adjacent to the medieval Nizamuddin complex.

Getting there Fly to New Delh’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Lodhi is only 40-minutes from the airport.

When to go The best time to travel to India is between September and March, when the weather is most pleasant. Summer starts in April and by June, it becomes very hot. By July there is the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rains to the west coast. Although the word "monsoon" often brings to mind images of torrential floods and landslides, it is not a bad time to travel. The downpour tends to come and go quickly, leaving behind a clean, glistening landscape.
