Georgia Tours & Holidays

Small Group Tours & Tailor-Made Holidays

One of the most captivating countries in the Caucasus, Georgia is a destination that rewards every kind of traveller — from those drawn to its ancient cave monasteries and UNESCO-listed old towns, to those who come for its extraordinary landscapes, legendary hospitality and one of the oldest wine-making traditions in the world. Few countries pack such diversity into so compact a space.

Beyond the cobblestoned beauty of Tbilisi, Georgia reveals itself in layers — from the ancient cave city of Uplistsikhe and the sky-piercing towers of Svaneti to the sun-drenched vineyards of Kakheti and the dramatic gorges of Kazbegi. Each region has its own character, cuisine and cultural traditions, making Georgia one of the most endlessly interesting small group tour destinations in Asia.

At Asian Geographical, we design tailor-made Georgia holidays and small group tours that bring the full breadth of this remarkable country to life. Whether focusing on Tbilisi and the eastern highlands, exploring the remote communities of Svaneti or combining Georgia with Armenia and Azerbaijan on a wider Caucasus journey, our specialists ensure every detail is crafted with care and expertise.

Georgia Highlights

GEORGIAN WINE AND FOOD: Georgia is one of the oldest wine-producing nations on earth, with a tradition stretching back 8,000 years and now recognised by UNESCO. The amber-coloured qvevri wines of Kakheti, fermented in ancient clay vessels buried underground, are unlike anything produced elsewhere. Paired with the extraordinary diversity of Georgian cuisine — from walnut-laden salads to slow-braised churchkhela — food and wine here is a journey in itself.

GEORGIA MONASTERIES AND CHURCHES: Georgia's sacred architecture is among the most beautiful in the Christian world — from the cave monasteries of Vardzia and Davit Gareja carved into sheer cliffsides, to the soaring medieval cathedrals of Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital. The hilltop Gergeti Trinity Church above Stepantsminda, framed by glaciers and storm clouds, is one of the most photographed and spiritually powerful sights in all of Asia.

GEORGIAN MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES: The Greater Caucasus range forms Georgia's dramatic northern spine — a world of glaciers, alpine meadows and ancient watchtower villages that rivals the Alps in grandeur yet receives a fraction of the visitors. Kazbegi and Svaneti are the twin crowns of Georgian mountain travel, offering superb trekking, extraordinary medieval architecture and an atmosphere of timeless highland hospitality that stays with travellers long after they leave.

TBILISI CULTURAL HERITAGE: Tbilisi is one of the great old cities of Asia — a place where carved wooden balconies overhang cobbled lanes, sulphur baths steam beneath domed rooftops and ancient churches rise beside Persian-era caravanserais. The city's creative energy is palpable in its galleries, wine bars and rooftop restaurants, yet its ancient soul — shaped by Persian, Ottoman and Russian occupation — is never far from the surface.

Why Choose Asian Geographical
Why Choose Asian Geographical

Exclusively Asia

The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.

Georgia Regions

TBILISI AND THE MTKVARI VALLEY: Georgia's capital sits in a steep river gorge where the ancient and contemporary exist in vivid juxtaposition. The Abanotubani sulphur bath district, Narikala fortress and the medieval Anchiskhati church sit alongside some of the Caucasus' most exciting contemporary restaurants and galleries. Nearby Mtskheta — Georgia's ancient ecclesiastical capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is an essential half-day excursion from the city.

KAKHETI AND THE WINE COUNTRY: Eastern Georgia's Alazani Valley is the heartland of Georgian wine — a landscape of ancient monasteries, fortified towns and family estates producing some of the world's most distinctive natural wines. The hilltop town of Sighnaghi, enclosed by medieval walls overlooking the valley, is a highlight, as are the twin monasteries of Bodbe and Alaverdi and the ancient walled city of Gremi.

KAZBEGI AND THE GEORGIAN MILITARY HIGHWAY: The route north from Tbilisi through the Caucasus to the Russian border is one of the great drives of Asia — a road of soaring gorges, ancient watchtower villages and startling mountain scenery that culminates at Stepantsminda, where the Gergeti Trinity Church perches above the clouds beneath the glaciated mass of Mount Kazbek. The surrounding valleys offer superb trekking and authentic highland village life.

SVANETI AND WESTERN GEORGIA: Georgia's most remote and visually extraordinary region, Svaneti sits high in the Greater Caucasus — a landscape of medieval defensive towers rising above ancient villages that have preserved their traditions for centuries. Mestia is the main base, while the UNESCO-listed village of Ushguli is one of the highest permanently inhabited settlements in Europe. The Black Sea coast at Batumi adds a further subtropical dimension to western Georgia.

WEATHER IN Georgia

The best time to visit Georgia is from May to June and September to October, when the weather is mild and ideal for Tbilisi, wine regions, monasteries, mountains and cultural touring. Summer suits the Caucasus mountains, while spring and autumn offer softer light and comfortable travel conditions.

  • Georgia, nestled at the intersection of Europe and Asia, experiences a climate that's as varied as its geographical landscape. The country's weather patterns are significantly influenced by the Greater Caucasus Mountains in the north, which shield it from cold northern winds, and the Lesser Caucasus in the south, contributing to its diverse climatic zones.
  • In the coastal region of Adjara, the climate is subtropical with warm, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Batumi, its capital, enjoys abundant rainfall throughout the year, making it lush and verdant. Travellers often find spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) the most pleasant times to visit, avoiding the peak summer humidity and winter rains.
  • The eastern part of Georgia, including the capital Tbilisi, features a more continental climate. Summers here are hot and dry, with temperatures often soaring above 30°c, while winters can be quite cold, with occasional snowfall. The ideal months to explore this region are during the moderate temperatures of late spring and early autumn.
  • The mountainous regions such as Kazbegi in the Greater Caucasus experience alpine climate. These areas are perfect for those seeking cooler summer temperatures and opportunities for snow-based activities in the winter. Summer (June to August) is the best season for hiking and enjoying the mountain scenery.
  • Overall, the best time to visit Georgia largely depends on the activities one is interested in. However, for general tourism, the transitional seasons of spring and autumn are highly recommended due to their pleasant weather and the stunning natural beauty they unveil.
