Elsewhere - A Sea Scape, Goa | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Elsewhere Goa is an elegant, boutique beach house property, set on a remote stretch of beach in northern Goa. Owned by Bombay based fashion photographer Denzel Sequeira, Elsewhere has been in his family since 1886, when his great-grandfather, Anjelo Zeferino Sequeira bought the spit of land between the sea and a salt-water creek. The restored houses are authentic in their look and charming in style that take you back in time and yet provide all the modern amenities of today.

The unique selling point of Elsewhere Goa is its secret location, somewhere on Mandrem beach. Details follow after your booking which lead you to point where a man waits with a sign “Take me Elsewhere”. It’s the secrecy of the place that has led Angelina and Brad, as well as Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh to stay there. There are just four cottages with 2-3 rooms, each individually decorated in traditional style and furnished with antique furniture and modern fittings.

Accessed by a small bamboo bridge over a creek, the Elsewhere Goa remains exclusive for the use of its guests. There are spots around the property where you can relax and the wide beach is perfect for swimming. In the surrounds are ample opportunities for walking and biking or visit remote villages. One day, take a guided walking tour of Old Goa, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Other highlights include flea markets and Dudhsagar Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India.

Stay Elsewhere Goa offers just four cottages and three Otter Creek Tents. All the cottages, built in traditional style with terracotta roofs are set directly on the beach facing the sea. Inside, rooms are decorated in traditional style with shuttered windows, cool natural flooring and furnished with antique furniture. All the cottages range from two to three bedrooms and have delightful open sitting areas with views of the sea. Amenities include a fridge, electric kettle, iPod docking stations.

The Otter Creek Tents are located towards the back of Elsewhere with delightful sitting areas overlooking the creek. All are furnished with four poster beds, fan and air-cooled and come with western en-suite bathrooms.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Elsewhere Goa. All the cottages have one to 3 rooms which are ideal for families with children. There are open areas in the surrounds, providing a great setting for children.

Dine Meals at the Elsewhere Goa are served in the tented beach shack, set in the coconut grove, central to both the cottages and tents. Breakfasts are mainly Western-style with fresh juices, yoghurt and eggs on order. Lunch can include bruschetta, pasta and grilled meats with salads while candle-lit dinners are mostly focussed on sea food, prepared in traditional Goan style. The house bar offers local and international wines, Italian coffee and fresh coconut water.

Relax The main reason guests come to stay at the Elsewhere Goa is to relax. The beach is one of the best in Goa, and the sea is great for swimming. It is also one of the only beaches where turtles still come ashore to lay eggs. When the tide moves out it leaves a little tidal pool which is great for children to swim and play in.

Experience Situated in the north, guests at the Elsewhere Goa enjoy a lovely stretch of Goa’s quiet and relaxed beaches. Most guests stay here for a week and spend one or two days for explorations in the surrounds. Take a local fishing boat out into the sea to watch dolphins, that sometimes you can see from the beach. The Solita yacht can be arranged for a moonlight or sunset cruise. One day, visit old Goa to see Portuguese architecture and old churches or visit Goa’s famous flea markets.

Location Elsewhere is located in the north of Goa (far past the very touristy areas!) on a quiet beach.

Getting there Fly to Goa's Dabolim Airport (via Mumbai), followed 1-hour transfer to Elsewhere.

When to go The best time to visit Goa is between late October and early April. The peak tourist season is from mid-December to mid-January, when the weather is near perfect, with daytime temperatures rarely going beyond 32°C. The monsoon season begins around June, when the hot temperatures of summer are cooled with an influx of clouds and rain. On average, the hottest months of the year are April and May.
