Glenburn The Penthouse is a luxurious boutique hotel, set in a sleek office building in the heart of Calcutta. Developed by the owners of the enchanting Glenburn Tea Estate in Darjeeling, it offers a more authentic alternative to the multi-storey tower hotels with robotic staff. Set in a colonial style building with great views over the city, this luxurious retreat serves as an excellent base from which to explore chaotic streets of Calcutta and take excursions to various cultural around the city.

Spread over two floors, Glenburn The Penthouse features just nine luxurious rooms. Some rooms have balconies and two have private gardens with jacuzzis. Facilities include a sitting room, spa with two treatment rooms, steam room, and manicure/pedicure room. The main highlight of the Glenburn Penthouse is the rooftop which boasts a pool with views of the imposing Victoria Memorial. Feast on Bengali delicacies in the graceful dining room or al-fresco on the rooftop.

Guests at Glenburn The Penthouse are well placed to easily walk out to the centre of the town and experience spell-binding life and culture of Calcutta. From the hotel rooftop, you can view Victoria Memorial, St Pauls Cathedral, and Eden Gardens. One day take a city tour to visit Ghats or ‘stairs’ leading to the Houghly River, watch the Howrah Bridge or see the fabulous crumbling mansions of the East India Company's mandarins that dot the city.

Stay Glenburn The Penthouse features just nine rooms. All rooms have traditional design that reminisces the old tea plantation style and are furnished with antique furniture mixed with modern amenities. Rooms have polished wooden floors, glass chandeliers, sitting areas against picture windows and ensuite marble bathrooms, some with standalone baths.  

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Glenburn The Penthouse. Although there are no specific facilities available, there is enough space around for children to play. The hotel staff and the restaurant are flexible with children demands and menu requirements. Babysitting service can be arranged on request. 

Dine Meals at Glenburn The Penthouse are served in the dining room or al fresco on the terrace garden.  A team of local chefs serve homemade Bengali cuisine with some western favourite dishes. Foodies will enjoy the Bengali cuisine which follows a multi-course tradition quite similar to the service à la russe style and presently followed in modern western restaurants. The mains include rice and fish followed with a variety of sweets. 

Relax For relaxation Glenburn The Penthouse has a rooftop pool from which you can gaze out at the imposing Victoria Memorial. Look out over the Maidan, Calcutta’s vast central park featuring the Victoria Memorial & St Pauls Cathedral on one side, and on the other side, the Eden Gardens, Calcutta’s main cricket ground. The lovely bar is stocked with a range of International beverages including Indian wines. 

Experience There is so much to see and do in Calcutta and since Glenburn The Penthouse is centrally located, guests can easily zip out for a walk in the city and get back to their boutique haven. Visit the Marble Palace, one of the most elegant and best conserved houses in Kolkata, Mother Teresa House or look out at the Howrah Bridge, constructed without any nuts and bolts. One day take a wildlife trek in the Sundarban National Park, to see the royal white Bengal tigers and rich birdlife.
 


 

Location Glenburn The Penthouse is located in the heart of Calcutta on the Chowringhee Road. Chowringhee Road looks on to the iconic Victoria Memorial.

Getting there Fly into Calcutta's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. From there The Glenburn Penthouse is around 45-minutes away by car.

When to go Calcutta has three main seasons- Summer, Monsoon, and Winter. Summer, during March-May, is hot and humid with temperature touching 38-40°C. Monsoon starts in June and lasts till September, October. Winter starts in November and stays till February and weather is very pleasant. Best time to visit Calcutta is October-March.
