Hong Kong Tours & Holidays

Small Group Tours & Tailor-Made Holidays

One of the world's great cities, Hong Kong is a destination of extraordinary density and vitality — a vertical metropolis of gleaming towers and ancient temples, world-class dining and traditional street markets, dramatic harbour panoramas and easily accessible islands of remarkable natural beauty. Its skyline, viewed from the Peak or from the Kowloon waterfront across Victoria Harbour, is among the most spectacular urban vistas in the world, and its energy — commercial, culinary, cultural — is simply unlike anything else in Asia.

Beneath Hong Kong's glittering surface lies a city of extraordinary cultural depth — a place where Cantonese Opera traditions and ancient clan villages survive in the shadow of the world's most concentrated skyscraper landscape, where the morning ritual of yum cha dim sum remains as central to daily life as the trading floors of the financial district, and where the hiking trails of the Sai Kung Peninsula and Lantau Island offer remarkable natural escapes within thirty minutes of the central business district.

At Asian Geographical, we incorporate Hong Kong into tailor-made East Asia itineraries as both a gateway and a destination of genuine substance. From the neon-lit street markets of Mong Kok and the art galleries of Central to the ancient walled villages of the New Territories and the serene Big Buddha of Lantau Island, we design Hong Kong experiences that reveal the remarkable depth and variety of a city that rewards far more exploration than most travellers allow.

Best of Borneo

Hong Kong Highlights

HONG KONG HARBOUR AND SKYLINE: Victoria Harbour — separating Hong Kong Island from Kowloon across a kilometre of shimmering water — frames one of the most dramatic urban panoramas in the world. The Symphony of Lights nightly display illuminates over 40 city buildings in a spectacle of choreographed light and music, while the view from Victoria Peak at sunset — the city's towers turning gold against the harbour and the New Territories hills beyond — is simply one of the great urban vistas of Asia and an experience that never loses its power.

HONG KONG DIM SUM AND CANTONESE CUISINE: Hong Kong's Cantonese food culture is one of the great culinary traditions of the world — a cuisine of extraordinary technical refinement, ingredient quality and variety that finds its most democratic and beloved expression in the yum cha dim sum tradition: the morning ritual of steamed dumplings, barbecued pork buns and fragrant tea taken in vast, noisy, joyful Cantonese restaurants that are among the most atmospheric dining experiences in Asia. The city's roast goose, wonton noodle soup and clay pot rice complete a food culture of exceptional depth.

HONG KONG TRADITIONAL STREET MARKETS: Hong Kong's traditional street markets are among the most atmospheric in Asia — fragrant, crowded bazaars of extraordinary variety where antique jade, fresh seafood, dried seafood, temple incense, tailored clothing and live poultry jostle for space in the narrow streets of Kowloon and the older districts of Hong Kong Island. The Ladies' Market of Mong Kok, the jade market of Yau Ma Tei, the night market of Temple Street and the flower market of Flower Market Road together create a street market culture of great vitality and sensory richness.

HONG KONG ISLANDS AND NATURAL LANDSCAPES: Beyond the towers of the central business district lies a Hong Kong of extraordinary natural variety — over 260 islands, many of them accessible by ferry and offering a world entirely removed from the urban intensity of the main city. Lantau Island shelters the serene Tian Tan Buddha, the ancient Tai O fishing village on stilts and excellent hiking in the Lantau Country Park; Lamma Island offers fresh seafood restaurants by the pier; and the beaches and granite sea stacks of the Sai Kung Peninsula are within easy reach by MTRand minibus.

Why Choose Asian Geographical
Why Choose Asian Geographical

Exclusively Asia

The difference with the Asian Geographical is, that each of our holidays is designed with extreme precision of a mountaineering expedition.

Hong Kong Regions

HONG KONG ISLAND AND VICTORIA PEAK: Hong Kong Island is the historic and commercial heart of the city — a landscape of extraordinary vertical density where the Central financial district, the colonial heritage of Government House, the artisan galleries of SoHo and the noodle restaurants of Sheung Wan cluster at the base of the dramatic peak. The Peak Tram journey and the panoramic view from Victoria Peak at sunset are essential experiences, as are the traditional Cantonese teahouses of Western District and the weekend art markets of PMQ.

KOWLOON AND THE CULTURAL PENINSULA: The Kowloon peninsula offers a denser, more traditional urban experience than Hong Kong Island — a world of night markets, noodle shops, Cantonese opera venues and some of the city's finest museums. The Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Temple Street night market, the jade vendors of Yau Ma Tei and the extraordinary Kowloon Walled City Park — where the infamous city once stood — together create a Kowloon experience of considerable historical and cultural depth.

NEW TERRITORIES AND ANCIENT VILLAGES: The New Territories — the hinterland between Kowloon and the mainland Chinese border — reveal a completely different face of Hong Kong: a landscape of ancient walled Hakka clan villages, wet markets, duck farms, country parks and the remarkable Mai Po Marshes, one of the most important migratory bird staging posts in East Asia. The walled village of Kat Hing Wai, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin and the Ping Shan Heritage Trail offer fascinating insights into Hong Kong's pre-colonial history.

LANTAU ISLAND AND THE OUTLYING ISLANDS: Lantau is the largest of Hong Kong's islands and one of its most rewarding destinations — a place of forested hills, ancient monasteries and villages of great traditional character that feels entirely separate from the urban intensity of the main city. The Tian Tan Big Buddha at Ngong Ping, reached by cable car over forested hillsides, and the Tai O fishing village of stilt houses and narrow channels are the highlights, while the beaches of Discovery Bay and the hiking trails of the Lantau Trail complete an excellent island escape.

WEATHER IN Hong Kong

The best time to visit Hong Kong is from October to December, when the weather is cooler, drier and more comfortable for city touring, harbour views, markets and island walks. Spring can be pleasant but humid, while summer is hot, wet and more affected by tropical storms.

  • Hong Kong experiences a subtropical climate characterised by hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Its weather patterns are significantly influenced by monsoons and its proximity to the South China Sea.
  • During summer, from June to August, temperatures frequently exceed 30°c, accompanied by high humidity and occasional heavy rainstorms, including typhoons which can affect the region from May to November. The New Territories and outlying islands like Lantau can experience slightly more extreme weather compared to the urban areas of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, where the sea moderates temperatures somewhat.
  • Autumn, from late September to early December, is often considered the best time to visit. Weather during these months is generally sunny and more temperate, making it ideal for exploring the city and its diverse regions. Temperatures are comfortable, ranging from 20°c to 28°c, and the reduced humidity provides clear, blue skies.
  • Winter, from mid-December to February, is mild and sunny, with temperatures rarely dropping below 10°c. This season is also drier, particularly suited for outdoor activities without the discomfort of summer's oppressive heat. It's a great time to enjoy Hong Kong's natural scenery, like hiking in Sai Kung or the Peak on Hong Kong Island.
  • Spring, from March to May, sees temperatures gradually rising and humidity increasing. While it is a beautiful time for the blooming flora, it can be less comfortable due to occasional rain and fog, particularly in the more mountainous regions.
