The 360 Leti is a luxury mountain retreat, set at about 4-hour drive from Almora in Uttaranchal in northern India. Although situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, reaching there is not for the faint hearted. The journey begins with an overnight train ride from Delhi, followed by a one-hour mountainous trek through oak forests. The resort is also assessible by a flight charter to nearby Pithoragarh and then making the final trek to the lodge while your luggage is carried by the porters.
Set up on a hilltop plateau, the 360 Leti offers just four cottages, built with stone, timber and glass. Traditional in design and fitted with authentic artefacts, the spacious rooms offer grand views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Luxe touches include four-poster beds, pashmina blankets, fluffy duvets and sitting areas around cosy fireplaces. Each cottage has been built using local techniques with dry-stone and glass walls and ensuite bathrooms are fitted with quality modern amenities.
Guests at the 360 Leti can expect gourmet dining, with a menu created by a Relais & Châteaux chef using fresh ingredients from its own organic garden, supplemented with local river fish and meat. Meals are served on a spacious communal table in a glass-fronted dining room, warmed by a log fire. In the surrounds are many opportunities for mountain treks or birdwatching tours as well as cultural walks that include visits to local villages. Yoga and meditation classes can also be organised.
Amenities
Stay 360 Leti offers just four spacious cottages. All the cottages have large glass walls on two sides to take in the stunning Himalayan views. Inside, are warm wooden floors with rugs and sheep skins, four poster beds draped in fine linen and minimally furnished with necessities to keep the focus on the outdoors. Ensuite bathrooms have modern fittings with solar-powered rain-head showers, brass basins and organic soaps and windows cut into the stone walls to catch the best views.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the 360 Leti but there are no specific facilities available for children. However, children will love the surrounds with open grounds to play and just enjoy the natural environment. The hotel can organise tours to nearby village schools and interaction with children there. Babysitting service can be arranged, on request.
Dine Experience exceptional gourmet cooking at the 360 Leti from a Relais & Châteaux group trained Chef Yeshi Lama serving a menu of Indian, Continental, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines. Meals are served around a spacious, communal table in grand view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks seen through its glass panelled walls. At night, dinner is by candle light, around a glowing fire and paired with fine French and New World wines.
Relax Guests stay at the 360 Leti to relax with no Internet or cell phone access, no TV or morning newspaper. During the day you can choose to go for a walk and those who stay back can take cooking lessons in Tibetan and Indian cuisine or wander around the organic garden that supplies most of the vegetables and herbs to kitchen. There is no swimming pool but you can swim under a natural waterfall. There are also trained instructors available for yoga and meditation.
Experience There is lots to do at the 360 Leti, but the main activity is mountain walking with great vistas of the Himalayas. The hotel offers guided walks along mountain streams and villages where you stop for picnic or interactions with local people. The area is also known for its flora and fauna and birdwatching with glimpses of eagles or Himalayan griffins. A stay at the 360 Leti, can be easily combined with trekking in the Kumaon region.
Location 360° Leti is situated in north western India in the state of Uttaranchal.
Getting there To get here, you need to fly to Delhi (9-hours), then travel to the hill station of Almora by private plane, or train (overnight) and car, or car. An overnight stay at Almora is included in the rates. The next day you'll have a 5-hour drive, followed by a 1-hour walk. Alternatively you can helicopter directly from Delhi to the camp.
When to go Cold Winters in the months of November to February. It is between the month of March and early May when sunshine is quite abundant. Though summer is officially from May to October, Leti is almost always wet due to the heavy monsoons. September to October is Autumn. Best time to visit is between March to June and September to December.
