Shahpura Bagh, Shahpura, Rajasthan | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Shahpura Bagh is a boutique heritage homestay, set in rural Rajasthan, mid-way between Jaipur and Udaipur. Once a summer residence of the rulers of Shahpura, this 120-year-old property was converted in recent years into a boutique heritage hotel with a very personal touch. The descendants of the former rulers of Shapura still live in part of the 45-acre estate and ensure that every guest receive their warm welcome and expansive hospitality during their stay.

Spread between two heritage buildings, Shahpura Bagh houses just nine spacious suites. All are decorated in an elegant but minimalist design; marble floors with rich Kashmiri carpets, high ceilings with glass chandeliers, four-poster beds draped in fine cottons sheets and oversized bathrooms with a fire place and claw footed tubs. Shahpura’s traditional elegance extends to its elaborately decorated dining hall where delicious meals including the dynasty’s favourite dishes are served.

In the surrounds is Dhikhola Fort, former home of the Thakur of Shahpura, now a dilapidated citadel. Guests at Shahpura Bagh can enjoy a picnic and evening sundowner here with views soaring across the flat plains. Take a guided birdwatching tour and hiking around the lakes or a jeep safari to the nearby Ram Dwara, the revered ancient temple. Excursions include visits to Shahpura village to see local artists at work and city tour of Jaipur, famous for its forts, palaces and buzzing markets.

It is surrounded by comfortable loungers, two tented pavilions with day beds and there is a bar offering snacks and drinks. Within the hotel is a spacious sitting room and there are bicycles available to explore the surrounds. There’s no official spa, but Pilates and yoga classes are on offer, as well as acupressure treatments.

Experience Shahpura area is dotted with many man-made lakes, rustic original quaint villages and friendly innocent people un-spoilt by modernity. Guests at Shahpura Bagh can visit an ancient Dhikhola Fort owned by the Shahpura family and explore its surrounding village. Appreciate the Rajput & Mughal architecture at the Ram Dwara temple and geometrical symmetric design of a step well. In the surrounds are over 250 small lakes, a bird watching paradise with over 180 species of birds.

Location Set midway between Jaipur and Udaipur, Shahpura Bagh is surrounded by 30 acres of garden, pasture and lakes.

Getting there Fly to international flight to Delhi Indira Gandhi International followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Jaipur. The Airport in Jaipur is a 5-hour drive from Shahpura Bagh.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
