Aman-i-Khas

Aman-i-Khas is a complex of regal style canvas tents, set outside the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan and well within reach of Delhi and Agra. Surrounded by low lying forested hills and nearby lakes, this exclusive retreat has taken inspiration from both the travelling quarters of Mughal emperors and the safari chic “glamping” styles. The result is majestic luxury in the wilderness with all the comforts of a Moghul palace, a modern hotel with exclusive Aman service.

Nestled within the Aravali Hills, Aman-i-Khas has 54 luxury tents set along a beautiful lake, home to over 200 species of birds. All are spacious in size, fully air-conditioned, furnished with custom-made dark mahogany furniture and spacious bathrooms with huge marble baths. Dining options include regal Indian cuisine and Western dishes served in an elegantly decorated dining tent. For relaxation there is a swimming pool, outdoor yoga sessions and a Spa tent with two treatment areas.

Ranthambore National Park is a former royal hunting ground and home to tigers, leopards and marsh crocodiles. Aman-i-Khas organises twice-daily guided safari excursions to the park with visits to the 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, the Ganesh Mandir temple and Padam Talao Lake, known for its abundance of water lilies. Back at the resort, there is a splendid fire pit where guests gather to share their day’s adventures whilst enjoying a drink as the sun sets over the hills.

Stay Aman-i-Khas offers 10 stylish, air-conditioned canvas tents, set on a raised concrete plinth. Each are spacious in size with soaring six-metre-high canopies, comfortable seating areas and beautifully furnished with custom-made teak furniture and sunken marble bath tubs. The bedroom area is fitted with a king-size bed flanked by twin writing desks and there is an oversized daybed ideal for lounging. There is also a ceiling fan and a cooler chest for drinks.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Aman-i-Khas but there are no specific facilities available for children as it is designed for adult guests.

Dine The dining tent at Aman-i-Khas is reminiscent of the Officer’s Mess in the old colonial times. There is one large central table and several smaller tables where meals are served on fine china with silver. The menu includes a range of Indian and Western dishes and dinners often conclude around a roaring outdoor fire that serves as a focal point in the evenings. On occasions you will experience ‘Bush Dinner’ in a secluded location with Indian style live cooking under a blanket full of stars.

Relax Facilities at the Aman-i-Khas include a beautiful swimming pool and a spa. The Spa Tent has two separate treatment areas, each with two massage beds. Treatments include massages, scrubs and traditional henna art using local herbs and spices. Yoga and meditation classes can also be arranged. There is also a lounge tent with a range of books about the surrounding region, board games, novels and magazines.

Experience Guests at the Aman-i-Khas will experience twice-daily guided safari excursions in the Ranthambore National Park, home to tigers, leopards, jungle cats, hyenas and sloth bears. Entry into the park is strictly regulated with only a limited number of vehicles permitted to enter a lottery-assigned trail. Bird life is abundant with over 350 species within the park and back at the camp is a small lake where flocks of colourful birds, nilgai, deer and other animals can be seen.

Location Aman-i-Khas is surrounded by Aravalli Hills, set on the edge of Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park.

Getting there Fly into Delhi's Indira Gandhi International followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Jodhpur. It's a 3-hour drive from Jodhpur airport to Aman-i-Khas. Alternatively, you can catch the train from Delhi to Jaisalmer or charter a helicopter. The train from Delhi takes just under four hours and drops guests off at Sawai Madhopur station, on the outskirts of the park. On arrival in Sawai Madhopur, guests are taken on the 15-minute journey to the camp itself in an open, jeep-style vehicle.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
