Heritage Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India | Luxury Holidays in India | Asian Geographical Adventures

Heritage Madurai is a luxury colonial-style hotel, set on the western edge of the city of Madurai. Originally a Club House with verdant gardens filled with ancient banyan trees, it was designed as a hotel in the 1970s by renowned Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. The building has now been extended and renovated by one of his disciples, using a variety of local materials, including the salvaged 18th-Century Chettinad columns, making it a relaxing base in this beautiful city.

Designed in the magnificent local temple architecture and palatial Chettinad mansions, Heritage Madurai offers 72 air-conditioned rooms and villas. All are spacious in size, minimalist in design and decorated with handcrafted period style furniture. Each has a separate living and bedroom area, a spacious en-suite bathroom, and many have private plunge pools and sun decks. Dining options include the Banyan Restaurant offering Indian specialities, Swig & Tee Bar and a Coffee Shop.

Facilities at the Heritage Madurai include a stunning swimming pool with sun loungers and Heritage Spa offering a range of Ayurvedic massages and treatments with aromatic herbal teas. Take a private tour to visit the city’s many temples including the famous Meenakshi Sundareswar Temple, displaying thousands of colourful carvings of gods, goddesses, demons and heroes. If possible, visit during the 4-day Pongal harvest festival, usually celebrated from 14 January to 17 January.
