The Gateway Hotel Ganges is an elegant urban retreat, surrounded by lush tropical gardens and landscaped lawns within the Nadesar Palace, just 6kms from the Varanasi city centre. Set back from the hustle and bustle of downtown and managed by the prestigious Taj group, it offers excellent value against similar town hotels. It is conveniently located near Varanasi, the cultural and religious centre and regarded as a holy place for several thousand years by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains.

Housed within the six-storey Gateway Hotel Ganges Varanasi, are 130 rooms and suites. All are tastefully furnished to a high standard with views of the gardens or swimming pool. The spacious marbled bathrooms are fitted with bathtubs and glass walk-in shower cubicles. There are two restaurants; Varuna, fine dining restaurant serving innovative Indian cuisine and Gad a more casual place, with views of the garden serving continental cuisine. 

Facilities at the Gateway Hotel Ganges Varanasi, include a swimming pool, tennis court and a children’s activity centre as well a colonial themed bar. The hotel is surrounded by wonderful gardens with trails for leisure walks. In Varanasi city are plenty of museums and the famous Hindu sites, including the 18th-century Mughal style Ramnagar Fort, and the Hindu Vishwanath Temple. Also visit Sarari Mohana, the weavers’ village known for its silk weaving and shop for Varanasi silk.

Stay The Gateway Hotel offers 130 Rooms. All rooms have classic design with large, arched windows, with views of the verdant gardens, the city or the swimming pool. Rooms have classic décor with polished teak floors, local hand-crafted furniture with comfortable beds and splashes of scarlet and burnt orange to add warmth. The marble-clad bathrooms are roomy, with bathtubs and glass walk-in shower cubicles. For extra space, book a Deluxe Suite, with a separate living room.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to come and stay at the Gateway Hotel Ganges Varanasi. There is a Children’s Activity Centre at the hotel which is great for keeping the small ones entertained. Babysitting service can be arranged, on request. 

Dine There is a choice of two dining options the Gateway Hotel Ganges. Dine on innovative Indian cuisine at Varuna, a wood-panelled fine dining restaurant with recessed lighting and a glittering chandelier, or have some top-notch continental cuisine at Gad, a more casual place, with floor-to-ceiling views of the lush, manicured gardens. Prinsep bar offers a world-class selection of wines and cocktails.

Relax Facilities at the Gateway include a beauty salon, business centre, health club, badminton court, swimming pool, jogging track, table tennis and tennis court. There is also yoga enclosure and spa with fitness centre. 

Experience Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Regarded as a holy place by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, it is believed to be around 3,000 years old. Your concierge at the Gateway Hotel will happily arrange ‘Temples of Varanasi’ tour, many of which are ancient and associated with legends of Hindu mythology. Next, visit one of India’s most famous Hindu sites, the Vishwanath Temple, the explore the nearby site of Sarnath, one of the four holy Buddhist sites.
 


 

Location The Gateway Hotel is set amidst 40 acres of lush green gardens, 6 kms away from the city Centre or the commercial hub of Varanasi also commonly known as The Chowk. Varanasi is situated on the left (west) bank of the River Ganga in Uttar Pradesh.

Getting there The Gateway Hotel is a 45-minute drive from the airport.

When to go The best season to visit Varanasi is between October and March when the temperatures are in a comfortable range of 5-15 degrees Celsius. It is also when festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm. Dussehra and Bharat Milap are celebrated in quick succession in September/October followed by the festival of lights, Diwali. The Ganga Festival takes place in November.
