Bujera Fort,Udaipur, Rajasthan | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Bujera Fort, designed in an authentic Rajasthani style is located in the small village of Bujera just outside the city of Udaipur. Richard Hanlon from Newcastle, who in the past dabbled with Sotheby, estate agency and interior designing finally decided to put all his passion and experience into building a fort, albeit a mini, in Rajasthan. Designed by a local architect and using regionally sourced material, this beautiful boutique hotel now reminisces the region’s glorious past.

Set around a beautiful courtyard, Bujera Fort features just 14 rooms and suites. These are offered in two different room types, each of which are spacious, furnished in traditional Indian design with seating areas and marble ensuite bathrooms. At its centre is a monochrome-tiled pool, flanked by immaculate lawns and paths, plus a cluster of sun loungers. Further relaxation can be achieved at the sensational spa with a range of treatments or morning yoga lessons in the gardens.

Experience traditional Indian and western dishes at the Bujera Fort with ingredients sourced from on-site vegetable patch and the local market. Guests can enjoy complimentary hill treks, cooking classes or take bicycles to explore the local villages. One day visit the city of Udaipur to see many of its palaces and havelis including the City Palace that featured in James Bond film, Octopussy. Later visit the hilltop Monsoon Palace, one of the best places to watch the sunset in Udaipur.

Dine Meals at the Bujera Fort are adapted to guests’ tastes. Breakfast is a mix of Indian and western dishes with fruits, yoghurt and juices and of course eggs on order. Lunch has a European bent, while candle-lit dinner comprises mostly of Indian dishes. Meals are prepared with locally grown produce complimented with its own jams, marmalades and bakery products. Experience Udaipur city, the 16th-century capital of the Mewar Kingdom is set around a series of artificial lakes and is known for its royal residences and palaces. Bujera Fort can organise day tours to the city to include the City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola and the largest of its kind in Rajasthan. Other highlights include Bagore Ki Haveli, an 18th-century mansion with over 100 rooms and Lake Garden Palace, known as the Jag Mandir and the Solar Observatory in the Fateh Sagar Lake.

Location Bujera Fort sits on the edge of the rural village of Bujera, approximately 45-minutes away from Udaipur.

Getting there Udaipur is the nearest airport and is served by internal flights from Delhi and Mumbai. From the airport, Bujera Fort is a 45-minute drive away.

When to go Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. Although it rarely rains in Rajasthan, the temperature drops slightly during the Monsoon period from July to September, and humidity increases. Post-monsoon period from October to November is the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
