New Delhi’s Oberoi hotel is a newly refurbished, luxurious hotel, set in South Delhi area, overlooking the verdant golf course. The hotel holds a dear place in my heart, as it does for many city natives. During my younger days, I frequent the Oberoi’s lobby with my friends as it was the epicentre for India’s glitterati and on special occasions eat at the famous Tabela restaurant. At the time, it was one of the fanciest hotel in India but then time caught up with the old Dame.
Now, the Oberoi, New Delhi has been reimagined as a more contemporary version of its old self. Following a $100 million renovation, the property now offers 218 large rooms instead of 283 with spacious bathrooms. To help counter New Delhi’s increasingly problematic pollution, the hotel has an indoor air purification system that prevents the entry of harmful air particles into the building, offering the cleanest air possible.
Tabela and the Café, my favourite restaurants are gone but they have been replaced by seven new spots including a fine-dining rooftop Chinese restaurant, Baoshuan, in collaboration with the Michelin-starred London-based chef Andrew Wong. For relaxation there are indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools and a luxurious spa with a fitness centre, run by the Banyan Tree group. The hotel is located close to both the old Delhi Moghul sites and Lutyens New Delhi.
Stay The Oberoi New Delhi offers guests 218 rooms and suites. All rooms and suites feature large picture windows which frame unmatched views of the Delhi Golf Course on one side and the historical Humayun's Tomb on the other. All rooms have teakwood floors, walk-in closets, luxury Italian marble bathrooms, complimentary high speed Internet, international television news channels and a selection of latest movies. A butler service and in room dining will be available 24 hours a day.
ChildCare Families with children are very welcome to stay at The Oberoi New Delhi. There is a babysitting service which can be arranged upon request.
Dine Restaurants at The Oberoi, New Delhi include seven new spots including threesixty° a contemporary Indian restaurant, Cirrus9, a rooftop bar that overlooks Humayun’s tomb; an Indian restaurant, Omya; and a fine-dining rooftop Chinese restaurant, Baoshuan, which offers a menu created in collaboration with the Michelin-starred London-based chef Andrew Wong, the chef and owner of A Wong. The Club Bar at the Lobby level serves a wide range of premium spirits and beverages.
Relax Wellness facilities at The Oberoi, New Delhi include temperature controlled indoor and outdoor swimming pool, The Oberoi Spa and a 24-hour fitness centre and Business Centre with seven meeting rooms and two private offices, which are equipped with the latest technology. Conference facilities include a ball room which accommodate up to 300 guests and three spacious banquet venues.
Experience Some of the sights located near The Oberoi, New Delhi include the India Gate, the Humayun Tomb, (the first Mughal Garden Tomb built in the 16th century), Purana Qila and Rashtrapati Bhawan, designed by Lutyens where the Viceroy once lived and now the official residence of the President of India. Others further afield include the Jama Masjid mosque, Qutab Minar, the Red Fort (the seat of the Mughal Empire) and the Bahai Temple.

Location The Oberoi is located in the heart of New Delhi, overlooking the lush greens of the Delhi Golf Club and the monument, Humayun's tomb. It is minutes away from the busy commercial centres of Connaught Place, Nehru Place, and the offices of Central Government Ministries and is within walking distance of Pragati Maidan, the international trade fair and exhibition grounds.
Getting there Fly into Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. From there, The Oberoi Delhi is then a just a 30-minute transfer away.
When to go The best time to travel to India is between September and March, when the weather is most pleasant. Summer starts in April and by June, it becomes very hot. By July there is the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rains to the west coast. Although the word "monsoon" often brings to mind images of torrential floods and landslides, it is not a bad time to travel. The downpour tends to come and go quickly, leaving behind a clean, glistening landscape.
