The Wildflower Hall, Shimla is a colonial retreat house, built by Lord Kitchner, as his retreat on a vantage ridge-top outside Shimla. Lord Kitchner’s inspiration were the alluring views of the Himalayas from the hills around Shimla. The old house has long gone but the prime location inspired a new and better property to develop. Today, the Oberoi’s Wildflower Hall takes its place and keeps his spirit alive.
The Wildflower Hall, Shimla has 87 rooms, all richly furnished with teak wood floors and hand knotted rugs. Every room has a spacious marble bathroom with separate shower and walk-in closets and personalized butler service. Three Deluxe Suites feature a separate living room with a fireplace. The very grand Lord Kitchener Suite has a four-poster bed in the master suite and a second bedroom. The small spa pool outside on the terrace has wonderful views of mountains and valleys below.
The two restaurants at the Wildflower Hall, offer the choice of fine international cuisine and traditional Indian cooking, or simply relax with a quiet drink in the timeless elegance of The Cavalry Bar. A world class The Oberoi Spa offers holistic treatments based on Ayurvedic, Asian and Western therapies. There is a choice of opportunities to enjoy the natural surroundings.
Stay Wildflower Hall offers 83 Premier Rooms, three Deluxe Suites and one Lord Kitchener Suite. The rooms and suites offer spectacular views over the cedar forests, mountain ranges or the gardens. Every room has a spacious marble bathroom with both a bathtub and a separate shower cubicle with deluxe toiletries. Three interconnecting sets of rooms are available at the resort.
The Premier Rooms offer vistas of the hotel’s manicured croquet lawns and natural rockeries, dotted with native wildflowers. The spacious Deluxe Suites with a fireplace in the sitting room, provides breath-taking views of the mountains. The exclusive Lord Kitchener Suite, located on the 4th floor with a comfortable living room and master bedroom, has wall-to-wall window offering panoramic views of the Greater Himalayas.
ChildCare The Wildflower Hall is located at about 2,500m in the Himalayas. For reasons of safety, the hotel is not suitable for children and does not accept reservations for families travelling with children below the age of 10 years.
Dine Dining at The Wildflower Hall, Shimla has two options, including The Restaurant features Indian Himachal and continental cuisine served indoors or on the terrace with magnificent views of the Himalayas. The Lutyens with its old-world interiors is the ideal venue for private dining. The Cavalry Bar is dedicated to the British regiments who served in India. With its walls adorned with war memorabilia and a magnificent marble fireplace that is lit in the winter months, it brings back the old-world charm.
Relax The recently opened Oberoi Spa at The Wildflower Hall, Shimla, was awarded second place in the Asia & the Indian Subcontinent Hotel Spa category, bringing the resort right into the top league of luxury destinations. The open-air whirlpool affords magnificent views across the Greater Himalayas, while the indoor pool - lit and adorned by overhead crystal chandeliers - is temperature controlled throughout the year. The modern fitness suite is fully equipped and air conditioned for guests' comfort.
Experience The best time to stay at The Wildflower Hall, Shimla is during the Indian Summer. We were there in September and the weather was still wonderful. On a cold day, you can sit in the outdoor Jacuzzi; on a sunny and cool afternoon, enjoy high tea in the lawn; and on a warm crisp morning, take a sedate ride on Wildflower Hall's two gorgeous ex race bred horses. For the more adventurous the resort offers white river rafting, trekking, mountain biking, ice skating (in winter) and golf.
