The Imperial is an elegant blend of Victorian, colonial and Art Deco style hotel, set right in the heart of New Delhi. Built in 1931 by Bromfield, a student of Edward Lutyens, the famed British architect, this hotel exudes luxury, elegance and hospitality reminiscent of the colonial era. Its marvellous mélange of Victorian, colonial, and Art Deco styles stands out even after more than seven decades and offers each guest the magic experience of capturing a piece of history.
The Imperial offers guests 235 restored rooms and suites. Rooms feature king size beds draped in fine linen from Porthault, France, beautiful marble baths with hand showers with Fragonard bathroom amenities. However, it’s the public areas that are a sheer delight – massive crystal chandeliers, sparkling marble floors, huge glossy mahogany tables, not to mention the vast original 18th- and 19th-century art collection that adorns the corridors of the hotel.
Facilities at the hotel include an Imperial Spa offering a range of treatments from Aromatherapy and Swedish massage, to body scrubs and foot reflexology. There are three restaurants serving Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine along with landscaped gardens and a swimming pool. Local attractions include the 17th-century Red Fort, the Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk one of the city's oldest markets. The hotel is located within walking distance to Janpath and Connought Place, the upmarket areas with shopping and eating out opportunities.

When to go The best time to travel to India is between September and March, when the weather is most pleasant. Summer starts in April and by June, it becomes very hot. By July there is the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rains to the west coast. Although the word "monsoon" often brings to mind images of torrential floods and landslides, it is not a bad time to travel. The downpour tends to come and go quickly, leaving behind a clean, glistening landscape.
