Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa: Luxury Retreat in Coorg

Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa is a mountain retreat, nestled high above the rainforest canopy of Western Ghats, in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka. Perched on a hillside and built with organic materials; river stones and recycled wood furniture with compressed mud bricks, this eco-friendly property offers stunning vistas of the forest, splendid isolation, luxury villas with panoramic views of the surrounding hills and a host of activities that will get you close to nature.

Spread over 180 acres of evergreen forest, Taj Madikeri Resort has 63 spacious rooms, cottages & Villas. Each of these, with a local Kodagu style architecture are carefully set, not disturbing the natural patterns and growth of the surrounding nature. The sense of exterior space in the villas is enhanced by picture windows while the fine interiors offer a range of facilities which includes your very own fireplace, swimming pools or living pavilions and in some a central courtyard.

Four gourmet restaurants, offer a range of cuisines from traditional coorg to western dishes with stunning views of the valley and beyond. For relaxation, Taj Madikeri Resort has two heated swimming pools and the Jiva Grande Spa covering an enormous 2,800 sqm, providing signature treatments and therapies. In the surrounds are nature trails and Dubare Elephant Camp with plenty of elephants used for festivals and trained under naturalists.

Stay Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa features 62 luxurious rooms and villas and one Presidential Suite. All are spacious in size, starting at 79 sqm with polished wooden floors, high ceiling and picture windows overlooking the forested hills. The décor is elegant in style, dark wood furniture and plush beds with fine cotton sheets, an outside veranda with comfortable seating and a fire place for chilly evenings. Equally spacious bathrooms have free standing baths and quality, organic toiletries.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to come and stay at Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa. Taj group of hotels are focussed on ensuring that kids have a good time during their stay at the hotel. There is an indoor games room as well as a variety of outdoor activities to participate in. Dine There are four restaurants and bar at the Taj Madikeri Resort, offering a range or regional and western cuisine. Fern Tree with both indoor and outdoor seating, overlooking the forested hills, is the all-day multi-cuisine restaurant. The elegant Nellaki with picture windows, specialises in the regional food of Coorg while the Poolside Grill serves sizzlers and barbeques. Those looking for a healthy meal can head to Dew Restaurant that effortlessly combines taste with wellness.

Relax Facilities at the Taj Madikeri Resort include indoor and outdoor heated pools, as well as a fully equipped gym and pottery studio. Nestled in the 180-acre rainforest, the Jiva Grande Spa, offers six signature treatments inspired by ancient healing traditions of India, including Ayurveda Therapies, Yoga & Meditation and beauty treatments. In addition, there are comfortable spaces within the hotel to relax or take leisurely walks in the surrounding manicured gardens. 

Experience Madikeri is a hill town in Western Ghats of southern Karnataka. Taj Madikeri Resort can arrange day tours to see the city highlights including the 17th-century Madikeri Fort that feature two stone elephants at the entrance. The ancient Omkareshwara Temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva and Abbey Falls cascading down the rocky slopes into a pool. Back at the hotel, guests can take rainforest nature treks, off-road biking, Earth-Craft pottery studio and cooking classes.
 


 

Location The hotel is nestled amongst the rainforest approximately a 3-hour drive from Mangalore airport.

Getting there 10-hour international flight and 2-hour domestic connecting flight to Mangalore Airport. Vivanta by Taj is 152km from Mangalore.

When to go Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical. The best time to visit is from January through to April. Summer is hot and humid; the monsoon season arrives in early June and lasts till August. While September can be dry and humid. There can be a little rain in October and November, cooling off around December and lasting until February.
