Sujan The Serai Camp: Luxury Desert Camp in Rajasthan

Suján The Serai is a luxury, boutique camp, set in the heart of Thar desert, outside Jaisalmer in Western Rajasthan. Owned by Jaisal Singh and Anjali, the camp was inspired from the royal caravans of Rajputana and designed to provide an experience of life, lived along the centuries old caravan routes between India and Eastern Asia. Set like an outpost in the middle of the golden Thar desert, it is perfectly placed for guests to easily explore both the desert and the Jaisalmer Fort.

Set on a 100-acre private estate of indigenous desert scrub, The Serai comprises of just 21 spacious tents. Each are made of locally made textiles, stitched by hand in Udaipur and set on raised platforms offering dramatic desert views. Inside, rooms have air-conditioning, hand crafted hardwood furniture with comfortable beds, study tables and spacious bathrooms. The six Luxury Tented Suites come with added perks, such as private stone plunge pools and walled gardens.

Delicious meals at the Serai are prepared with home grown ingredients and served either in the dining tent or wherever the guests choose to eat. Four tents house a luxury spa offering a range of therapies, yoga and meditation classes. Guests can opt for the Temple Trail tour, that includes a visit to nearby villages and historical temples to understand their architecture, history and culture. Also visit, the fort at Jaisalmer and take camel ride into the dunes ending with a sundowner.

Stay Suján, The Serai offers 21 luxurious tents set deep in the stunning Thar desert. The white canvas ents are raised on honeyed sandstone and each have a spacious bedroom, a terrace lounge, sitting room with hardwood writing desk and ensuite bathrooms with twin vanities. The six 'Luxury Tents' also have private walled-in gardens with plunge pools and the Royal Suite boasts its own heated pool, spa, lounge and dining tent, set in an exclusive, walled-off compound.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at The Serai but there are no specific facilities available for children. However, babysitting service can be arranged, upon request. 

Dine Experience sumptuous local delicacies and western selections at the Serai with a daily changing menu using produce from the camp’s organic garden. Meals are served in the dining tent or anywhere on the property as chosen by the guests. The elegant Bar with deep set club chairs, serves as a comfortable place to unwind with a refreshing cocktail or a drink of your choice from a range of beers, wines and spirits.

Relax Facilities at the Suján Serai include an outdoor pool and Suján Spa set in a walled garden, also offering yoga and meditation in the yoga pavilion. Guests can participate in cooking sessions, either to learn new recipes or to just view the preparations in the kitchen. Alternatively, take leisurely walks to nearby villages where farming is a primary occupation or volunteer at the Serai’s farm which grow their own produce and also has its own dairy farm.

Experience The dunes at Jaisalmer are of soft, golden hued sand, and the most sublime experience is to take a leisurely walk on these sands and end the day with a sundowner. Suján Serai can arrange sightseeing tours to include village safaris, camel rides, desert picnics and visit to the Jaisalmer fort, one of the largest in the world and home to the Royal Palace and the Jain temples. One day visit the 300-year-old abandoned village of Kuldhara, and learn about its fascinating legend.
 


 

Location The Serai is set on thirty acres of a hundred acre estate of indigenous desert scrub in the Great Thar Desert, about an hour (45km) outside Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.

Getting there 9-hour international flight to Delhi Indira Gandhi International followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Jodhpur. It's a 3-hour drive from Jodhpur airport to The Serai.

When to go The Serai is open from the beginning of September to the end of March. This is the post-monsoon period and the official "tourist season" in Rajasthan that extends into the winter months from December to March when its warm during the day and chilly at night.
