Uga Residence

Uga Residence is a modern boutique hotel, set in the heart of Colombo. Built in the 19th-century by a wealthy barrister, Sheikh Salehboy Moosajee, it played host to grand receptions attended by British Governors, Indian Maharajas, aristocrats and the social icons of the time. Situated on the fringes of the upmarket residential neighbourhood Cinnamon Gardens and close to Galle Face Green and the colonial Fort, it forms a perfect base from which to explore the Colombo city.

Fully refurbished, Uga Residence now offers just eleven-suites, spread around an attractive swimming pool. Each of the luxuriously furnished suites feature period style furniture that complement the contemporary style and the modern conveniences. ‘RARE’, the Uga Restaurant, serves haute cuisine with a contemporary twist and the Residence bar has a fine selection of premium whiskies and wines. For relaxation there is a pool, gym and lush gardens.

Situated in close proximity of the Uga Residence is the lakeside shrine of Gangaramaya, one of the most important temples in Colombo. Further west is Galle Face Green Walk, a favourite evening jaunt for the locals. While to the south are Independence Square and National Museum. Day excursions can include Pinnawala Orphanage, home to over 60 elephant orphans and Kandy, famous for its Temple of Tooth and the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya.

Stay Uga Residence has just 11 high-ceilinged suites. Each Suite consists of a spacious living area, bedroom opening out to a private courtyard and an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower. Rooms are furnished with modern, Victorian-style furniture with a hint of gold accents from sateen cushion covers to the mosaic tiles in the vast, modern bathrooms. Each room has a small private courtyard and a comfy low bed and equipped with mini-bar, Nespresso machines and large LCD TVs.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Uga Residence, but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.

Dine The fine-dining restaurant ‘RARE’ at the Uga Residence, serves a menu with contemporary continental cuisine with a creative spin on fresh Sri Lankan ingredients, much of which are sourced from the hotel’s own organic gardens. Meals are matched with fine wines from the well-stocked cellar, at the neighbouring Residence Bar. It’s a big-hitter on the city's high-end dining scene, not least because of its reputation for top-notch service.

Relax Facilities at the Uga Residence include a 16m swimming pool and a modern gym surrounded by a large garden. Inside, there are ample spaces with comfortable seating and there is also a ‘great room’ to meet or relax. With its spacious, leafy gardens and private courtyards, set within the heart of the city, Uga Residence is an ideal choice for stay in the Colombo city.

Experience There are plenty of things to do in Colombo, and the helpful staff at Uga Residence will happily arrange tuk tuks for you to see Gangarama Seema Malakaya, Independence Square, National Museum and Galle Face Green. This typically cosmopolitan port city offers ever-more stylish contemporary eateries, galleries and museums. For authentic experience, travel to its recently renovated old quarters, where you will find great local food and discover colourful shops.
