Tintagel – Boutique Heritage Hotel in Colombo

Paradise Road Tintagel is a boutique hotel, situated in one of Colombo's most fashionable districts. Named after the castle in Cornwall where King Arthur was purportedly born, it has been redesigned by Colombo trendsetter Shanth Fernando. Having founded Paradise Road, the design and lifestyle brand, he soon added a hospitality element to his style empire. Today, Tintagel is his vision of Colombo as a cosmopolitan capital, filled with artwork and stylish elements.

Housed in a stunning heritage building, Tintagel has a historic significance as it was home to the Bandaranaike family with Sri Lanka’s two Prime Ministers and the President. Leased to Uday Shanth Fernando by the family, it is now Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo, a unique private hotel. There are just 10 individually designed, high-ceilinged suites, all elegantly furnished with spacious lounge areas and souvenirs from Fernando’s wanderlust. 

The Court Yard restaurant has a lovely garden where guests can take breakfast, and its spacious balcony is a choice spot for a romantic dinner. While the exquisite Dining Room with a Flemish chandelier, serves a menu with international contemporary cuisine. On the ground floor, six life-size statues overlook the long, narrow swimming pool and a French château mirror hangs in the Red Bar. Tintagel guests can take complimentary transport to Paradise Road and get a 10% discount.
 


Stay Paradise Road Tintagel has just 10 spacious suites grouped in three types. Royal Suites, located on the first-floor feature light blue and off-white colours making it a calm and relaxing space. Superior Suites, located on the ground floor feature an outdoor and indoor lounge areas and private plunge pool, while the Executive Suites feature bath tubs. All have large four-poster, king size beds with equally large sitting areas with comfortable sofas and lavishly decorated in contemporary style.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Paradise Road Tintagel, Colombo, but there are no specific facilities available for children. There is no charge for baby cots, and kids up to five can share beds with parents. Extra beds for children are at a small charge and include breakfast. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.

Dine There are two dining options and a bar at Paradise Road Tintagel, Colombo. The Courtyard, an alfresco restaurant and the Dining Room, a smart and chic indoor restaurant decorated with series of work by Sri Lankan based Belgian artist Saskia Pintelon. Both offer contemporary style international cuisine. Private dining for individuals or groups up to 30 people can be easily arranged.

Relax Facilities at Tintagel Colombo include an outdoor Lap Pool located on the ground floor and features life-size contemporary sculptures by Sri Lankan contemporary artist Chamila Gamage. There is a small spa with an air-conditioned Massage Room available for guests that needs to be booked in advance. The gym is located on the first floor and contains the basic requirements for a workout. Located in close proximity is a yoga studio which can be booked at the reception.

Experience Most travellers to Sri Lanka, either avoid Colombo or make only an overnight stay. But there is much to do here. Shop a holics can now visit Paradise Road outlets by Tintagel, that feature handpicked fashion items. Guests get complimentary transport to their stores and 10% discount. Foodies can visit the Gallery Café that offers a unique combination of art and gastronomy within its atmospheric dining room. Tintagel can also arrange tour of the city and its nearby interesting sites.

Location Tintagel is centrally located in one of Colombo's most salubrious suburbs, Cinnamon Gardens, an ideal location for both holiday and business travellers, conveniently located near the city's leading restaurants, bars, galleries, shops and museums.

Getting there Fly to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. The journey from the International Airport will take about 1-hour.

When to go From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season here lasts from December to March. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
