Bethany 101 is a colonial-style boutique villa, set in the north western Province of Puttalam in Sri Lanka. Built in the early 19th-century, it has been a family home for generations. Now fully renovated, it offers ideal accommodation for discerning travellers who prefer a bit of traditional character, chic style and luxuries of a modern hotel. Situated about 2-hours’ drive from Colombo, it is ideally placed near the shores of Puttalam lagoon and close to Wilpattu National Park.
Set within the manicured lawns, Bethany 101 plays host to only six guest bedrooms. All are elegantly furnished in traditional style with antique four-poster beds, air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms. For those looking for a little more space can book the Master Room. There are no TVs in the rooms, keeping the focus on the surrounding nature but there is a large TV room and a beautiful swimming pool lined with flowering frangipani trees, creating a tranquil setting to relax.
Dining at the Bethany 101 is a personal affair. The chef will meet you and discuss your likes and dislikes, tailoring the dishes to meet your discerning taste. Meals are served on the antique dining table inside, the communal veranda or al fresco in the gardens. Activities in the area include water sports in the Puttalam Lagoon and Bar Reef for experienced divers. Nearby is Wilpattu National Park, home to the elusive sloth bear, elephants, deer and even leopard.
