Rampart Street: Historic Luxury in Galle Fort

Rampart Street hotel is located in the heart of Galle Fort, on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Once an elegant 19th-century English merchant house, it has been carefully restored to its original colonial charm, incorporated with contemporary touches of modern day Sri Lanka. Situated within walking distance from Galle Lighthouse, Rampart Street provides an excellent base for discerning travellers who like to stay in a private, quiet and serene environment.

The colonial Rampart Street villa provides airy outdoor pavilions with wooden floors and pale wood doors. Large potted plants rest in the garden and open brick wall near the pool and a beautiful carved wooden staircase leads to the first-floor guestrooms. Nestled amongst green gardens, Rampart Street hotel offers just four spacious suites. Two bedrooms are located out by the pool and two, including the master bedroom are upstairs in the main house.

There is a dedicated team with an in-house chef who ensure that your every need is catered for; from delicious contemporary style meals served on a 10-seat antique wooden table set, in an open sided dining pavilion or in the garden to adventure and culture activities in the surround. Guests can relax and unwind in a 7-metre pool or rejuvenate and invigorate at the nearby luxury Ayurveda spa. Adventure options include whale watching boat excursion and safari in Udawalawe National Park.

Guests at the Rampart Street hotel are well placed to explore the fort and its surrounding narrow streets, lined with boutique shops and restaurants. Take whale watching excursions out of Mirissa, visit the nearby Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya temple and further afield, explore Udawalawe National Park. To the east is Unawatuna beach, known for its good waves for surfing.

Location Located within Galle Fort itself (right by the lighthouse) and of course on Rampart Street, the villa is ideally located to explore the local area.

Getting there Fly to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. From Colombo airport it about a 3-hour drive to Rampart Street hotel in Galle.

When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry but the months of December to April are probably the best time to visit. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
