Maniumpathy is a luxurious boutique hotel, set in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Colombo city. Passed down through five generations of the accomplished Hallock family, this charming home is now a stylish retreat: colonial style architecture, grand entrance and old-world charm. Situated in an affluent area in the heart of the city, it is within walking distance to many of the city’s highlights including Victoria Park, the National Museum and the Town Hall.
This charming home and now a stylish Maniumpathy hotel, houses just eight suites, all arranged around a peaceful central courtyard. Public spaces are decorated with antiques such as an ebony dining table, rich red-leather Chesterfield sofas and some rooms with four-poster beds, marble top bathrooms and roll-top bath tubs. Team of talented chefs serve a fusion of Western and Sri Lankan cuisine at the ‘Nandi’ restaurant on the terrace or at the Grand Ebony Room for larger groups.
Maniumpathy serves as a perfect place to stay, for guests who want to explore the Colombo city, either before or after their Sri Lanka holiday. Guests can easily walk or take a tuk tuk to the nearby markets and visit many of its highlights. Leisure activities include the Royal Colombo Golf Course or an evening walk along the coast at Galle Face. Back at the hotel, there is a small pool surrounded with lush plants, a spa offering a range of therapies and perfectly manicured lawns.
Amenities
Stay Maniumpathy offers just eight guest rooms. All are different in size, ranging from 32sqm to 54 sqm and are elegantly furnished with antique furniture and some with four poster ebony beds. The spacious Master Suite comes with a separate living area and outdoor space, the four superior suites have king sized beds with balcony or access to garden and there are two Deluxe Suites with Queen beds. Rooms have air-conditioning, regal chandeliers and spacious marble top bathrooms.
ChildCare Families with children of seven years and above are welcome to stay at Maniumpathy, but there are no specific facilities available for children. There is also a family suite offering two separate sleeping areas split between mezzanine levels. However please note the hotel does not offer specific facilities for children.
Dine There are two restaurants at the Maniumpathy hotel. ‘The Nandi’ restaurant on the terrace, overlooking the swimming pool serves a selection of international cuisine, with a hint of Jaffna flavours from Northern Sri Lanka. Western and Sri Lankan-style breakfasts are served here, replete with local egg and string hoppers and curries. The Grand Ebony Room with a 16-seat ebony table, antique chandeliers, crystal candelabra and fine crockery is a perfect choice for groups.
Relax Facilities at Maniumpathy include a small freshwater pool but there is a lovely courtyard with sun loungers and masses of tropical foliage that make it a picturesque spot for a cooling dip. Inside the hotel, there are ample spaces to relax. The hotel also has a luxurious Spa offering a range of therapies at the hands of experienced therapists. Golfers can try a game of golf at the nearby Royal Colombo Golf Course.
Experience Guests at Maiumpathy are well placed to explore Colombo's city centre. Take a comprehensive city tour to include Gangarama Seema Malakaya, Independence Square and National Museum. Also visit Galle Face Green and enjoy a leisurely walk along the coast at Galle Face. Day excursions can be arranged to the cultural city of Kandy, an attractive tourist destination and Pinnawala Orphanage, home to over 60 elephants. Further afield is Sigiriya rock fortress, a Unesco heritage site.

Getting there Fly into Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. From there, Maniumpathy is a 1-hour 30-minute drive.
When to go From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season here lasts from December to March. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
