Ceylon Tea Trails in south central Sri Lanka are a group of five Tea Trails bungalows in the hills of the Bogawantalawa region in the Dimbula district. Bogawantalawa is known as “The Golden Valley” on account of its lush tea bushes and is famous for Ceylon Tea. The five Tea Trails bungalows, each with 4 to 6 rooms and suites, are located between 2 km and 15km from each other. This is an ideal setting for trekking and biking against the backdrop of mountains, lakes, and waterfalls.
Luxury Rooms in Ceylon Tea Trails bungalows open into a courtyard with a garden, lake or tea fields view. The more spacious Garden Suites are gracefully furnished with four poster king bed and a luxurious bathroom. For more space book Master Suite, with a separate living room and a private garden. Like to splash… take the Owner’s Cottage, located at Dunkeld bungalow, a romantically secluded standalone bungalow with heated outdoor tub with spectacular views of tea fields and lake.
Culture tours can be arranged to Kandy, the Hill Capital of Sri Lanka, Adam's Peak, Nuwara Eliya and the national parks of Horton Plains and Uda Walawe, known for elephants. Activities include white-water rafting, riding and tennis. But Ceylon Tea Trails is primarily for those who prefer holidaying the old-fashioned way; with no TV and no nightlife but glorious food, resting on the veranda with a Gin and Tonic, swimming, and enjoying the unique countryside.
Stay Ceylon Tea Trails in South central Sri Lanka has five colonial era tea planters' bungalows, each with 4 to 6 rooms and suites. Tientsin bungalow (former spelling for the Chinese city of Tianjin), is straight out of Colonial days and walking into a typical English Rose Garden. Norwood bungalow set on a hill overlooking a reservoir has weather, just like in England in the summer.
The four-bedroom Summerville bungalow has a suite with its own private garden and spectacular views over the lake. Castlereagh bungalow, set in a more picturesque location has views of the lake and the rolling hills covered in tea bushes. There is a stunning swimming pool but the big plus here is the large veranda where all meals can be served.
ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Ceylon Tea Trails, but there are no specific facilities. The restaurant serves a children's menu and there is a family suite available. Babysitting service can be arranged, if requested.
Dine The day at Ceylon Tea Trails begins with that wonderful colonial institution, Bed Tea. The divine breakfasts include freshly baked Danish pastries and croissants, homemade black currant jam and marmalade. Lunch is the fabulously aromatic, authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry. Afternoon high teas in gardens curiously English. In the evening, relax by the roaring fires and the comfort of a single malt whisky after a long day’s walk in the tea gardens, followed by a four-course gourmet dinner.
Relax Choose from Cinnamon Spice, Green Tea, Black Pepper & Orange, Jasmine or a Bergamot & Geranium Bath. Or luxuriate in a spa treatment in the privacy and the comfort of your room after a hike or bike ride and soothe any aches and pains away… treatments include the Ceylon Tea Trails Signature Massage, Deep Tissue Massage & Reflex Zone Therapy.
Experience Tasting tea is the essential Ceylon Tea Trails experience. First, take an impressive tour of one of the local tea plantations where you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about tea from the Resident Tea Planter. His informative and humorous insight into tea production is not to be missed. Watch how the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then, visit the factory where the all-important conversion to black tea happens.

Getting There There are direct (10-hour 45-minute) flights to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. Most guests come by private car, either as part of a bigger exploration around Sri Lanka or arranged by Ceylon Tea Trails. The journey time is 4.5 hours from Colombo.
When to go The best time to visit Sri Lanka is between December and April when it’s drier and the climate is cooler. It’s also the peak time for whale-watching in the south where blue and sperm whales can be seen. From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern coast and the cultural triangle. However, the hill country around Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains and Bandarawela remains cooler. Rains may also occur between September and November.
