Armenian Panorama: Explore the Soul of Armenia
June 01 - 1, June 01, 2025
Suriyawatta is a beautiful beachfront villa, set on the sultry shores of Weligama, southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Built onto an elongated piece of land with lush terraced lawns, shaded by ancient flower-laden frangipani trees, blushing bougainvillea and dotted with king coconut palms. Perched above the Weligama lagoon, it is ideally placed near Mirissa Beach, launch pad for the whale and dolphin watching excursions and Unawatuan beach for surfing and the ancient Galle Fort.
This charming Suriyawatta villa has just six guest rooms. There are four air-conditioned rooms at the front; two rooms on either side of the courtyard and another room in the garden providing privacy for couples or honeymooners. On a lower terrace lies the salt water swimming pool and a few more steps down the garden is a gate that opens onto a small beach and the lagoon that seasonally offers safe swimming and snorkelling.
The Suriyawatta is fully staffed with a chef who will create delicious Sri Lankan and Western dishes. The day routine at the villa starts with an early morning walk on the beach followed by a lazy breakfast. Consult with the house manager about your days activities, who will offer advice and book your arrangements. Visit the 17th-century, Dutch Galle Fort, a Unesco heritage site, Unawatuna of water sports, or travel inland for guided tea plantation or bird watching tours.
Amenities
Stay Suriyawatta features just five spacious guestrooms. There are 4 bedrooms in the main house centred around an open courtyard the one double set in a separate building, tucked above one side of the garden. The décor is minimalist, with cool concrete or tiled floors, comfortable beds draped in fine linen and spacious ensuite bathrooms with contemporary fittings. All rooms have air conditioning and open out onto a veranda with comfortable chairs to watch the rich birdlife in the garden.

Alternatively, you can cook in the fully equipped kitchen (including ice cream maker) and BBQ, located off the main building and the chef will be happy to give a helping hand. Meals are served in the cool dining veranda overlooking the sea.
Relax In addition to the ample living space, Suriyawatta villa has large swimming pool (15.5m by 5.4m) with eight sun beds, and a library with a selection of books, magazines and DVDs.
Experience Weligama literally means ‘sandy village’ which refers to the area's sandy sweep bay. Guests at Suriyawatta have an easy access to the beach although swimming and surfing is only safe between mid-December and April. During this period, you are also likely to see humpback and blue whales as well as pods of Bottlenose, Spinner and Striped dolphins. Here and at Dahawalla and Mihiripanna you can also enjoy snorkelling, sailing, fishing, sea kayaking and boating.
Location Located in the fishing town of Kaparatota just 2km from Weligama, Villa Suriyawatta lends itself well to exploring Sri Lanka's south coast.
When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry but the months of December to April are probably the best time to visit. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
