Ranawara is a stylish, coastal retreat, set northeast of Tangalle, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Designed for families and small group of friends, it is safely tucked within 23 acres of tropical gardens and yet close to golden sand beach that joins with the adjacent Kahandamodara beach to its west. Together they form the longest stretch of secluded beaches and provide an idyllic hideaway for friends and families looking to enjoy a slice of luxury along the South Coast of Sri Lanka.
The Ranawara Villa houses just seven spacious suites. The main villa extends over a total of 4,200 sqm of open plan living, including five elegant suites and a further two single-suite chalets are found on the estate grounds. Traditional in style, it has slopping terracotta roofs, long shaded causeways and open-air pavilions. Interior areas flow seamlessly onto terraces and verandas edged by pillared walkways, soft stone paving and mirror-still ponds providing a sense of ultimate calm.
The philosophy at the Ranawara Villa is to create a stillness of mind. Every space is uncluttered, sea shell white and pristine. Even contemporary meals created by an experienced chef are served on a long 12-seat table or indoors on a 6-seater round table. Equally spacious bathrooms have colonial style ceiling fans and there is an open air but curtained massage parlour. Your dedicated butler will ensure every need is met including organising your varied day trips to the nearby surrounds.
Amenities

In the main building, there are three suites on the ground floor and two suites located on the first floor with spectacular 360-degree views of the gardens, lakes and ocean. All of the bedrooms are spacious, enjoy the same colonial style and minimalist design and furnished with king size four poster beds. Those looking for extra privacy can book one of the two single-suite chalets located further on the estate grounds.

Dine The Ranawara Villa has a team of dedicated staff including an experienced chef who will discuss with you for any dietary requirements and create delicious contemporary meals fusing traditional Sri Lankan and Western dishes. Meals are served in the dining are or the place of your choosing. There is also a rooftop bar serving a range of beverages and cocktails.
Relax Facilities at the villa include an open sided living area with a study and library on the first floor and an air-conditioned home cinema. Guests can relax and unwind in the beautifully appointed infinity pool that overlooks the extensive manicured gardens, take spa treatments on the massage pavilion or take a stroll on the private 23-acre estate.
Experience The palm fringed Kahadamoda beach near Tangalle coast is less known but enjoys wide isolated patches for relaxation. Guests can experience boating and water activities in the nearby lakes. However, those who want to explore further can visit the Yala and Udawalawe National Parks (both within two hours’ drive) to view wildlife including leopards, elephants, crocodiles and many bird species. To its west is Mirissa beach, known for whale watching excursions.
Location Hidden down a dirt road, Ranawara Villa is located in a small fishing village, 15km south of Tangalle in the village of Kahandamodara.
Getting there Fly into Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo and transfer by private vehicle to Ranawara Villa. Transfer time is approximately 4 hours 30-minutes.
When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry but the months of December to April are probably the best time to visit. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
