Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort

Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp is a stunning luxury hotel, set on a sylvan hillside above the Mekong River, an hour north of Chiang Rai. The accommodation comprises of 61 rooms and suites, all with balconies, teak wood floors and decorated with northern Thai objects and textiles. The infinity pool has superb Mekong views, and there’s a first-rate spa and two excellent restaurants, one serving spicy northern Thai and the other surprisingly good Italian.

There is an abundance of activities on offer at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp. Guests can visit Chiang Rai and the neighbouring countries by longtail boat. Nearby is the Hall of Opium, showcasing a fascinating history of the region. Rising 2,000 metres above sea level is Doi Tung, a revered mountain and home to several historical sites. To the north is Chiang Sean, once the ancient Lanna capital, and now a historical park, complete with awe-inspiring ancient monuments.
 


Stay Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp features 61 rooms and suites. All rooms are spacious with Lanna-influenced design, teakwood floors and balconies with 'three country' views. Deluxe rooms (32 sqm) come with a king bed with down duvet, brilliant Thai silk fabrics, and an oversized terrazzo bathtub. Those seeking more space can opt for Suites (64 sqm) which come with 16 sqm balconies. Modern amenities include air-conditioning, flat screen satellite TV, DVD player, iPod docking station.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Anantara Golden Triangle. Children under 12 can share their parents' room for free however there are also Three Country View Family Suite which comprises of a Deluxe Room interconnecting with a Suite to offer both privacy and a shared family experience. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.

Dine There are two restaurants at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp. The grand and airy Sala Mae Nam, which serves a hearty breakfast, with plenty of buffet options and regional Thai dishes. The adjacent Bann Dhalia restaurant offers Italian cuisine and an excellent selection of wine from around the world. Dark teak, low-slung chairs grace the Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace creating a grand colonial yet cosy atmosphere with a fireplace that is kept ablaze throughout the winter.

Relax Facilities at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp include a free form infinity edged swimming pool overlooking the tree canopy. However, the highlight here is the renowned Dara Camp, which offers unique experiences with the elephants. Set above the Thai and Burmese jungle is an idyllic sanctuary, home to a fabulous holistic spa offering a range of treatments. Other activities include a squash court, a gym and Anantara’s signature Spice Spoons Cooking School.

Experience Chiang Rai in northern Thailand, is known to for its rich culture. Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp conducts a wide range of excursions with local guides to include visiting Chiang Sean, the ancient Lanna capital and Doi Tung, the revered mountain that is home to several historical sites, including Doi Tung Palace. And, the popular Golden Triangle region is where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos converge, once the hub of Opium trade and features many ancient structural remains.

Location Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa is ideally located at the convergence of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos known as the Golden Triangle, nearby the northern city Chiang Rai. The resort sits on a lush hillside on the Thailand side of the border, looking out over the romantic landscape that has been inspiring writers and artists for centuries.

Getting there 11-hour international flight to Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Chiang Rai Mae Fah Luang International Airport. Anantara Golden Triangle is around a 70-minute drive from the airport.

When to go The best time to visit Chiang Rai is between October and April. The monsoon season traditionally begins in May and lasts through to October, with July to September usually being the time of heaviest rain. The hottest month is April, when temperatures can hit the 40s. The cooler months of November to January will be a good time to travel if you don't like the heat, with the average day temperature slightly below 30°C.
