The Dhara Dhevi Hotel is an intricately designed retreat, located deep in Northern Thailand’s Amphur Muang Province outside of Chiang Mai. Set on roughly 60 acres of manicured tropical grounds this hotel is fit for the royals, the rich and famous. The resort’s ornate, pagoda-like design, with towering gilt spires evokes the Thai villages of old. It’s an ancient Lanna in miniature, full of moats, fortified walls, and veering walkways erected over watery rice paddies.
Set within well-tended gardens, Dhara Dhevi Hotel offers 123 opulent suites and villas. All are regal to match and are both generous in size, adorned with Thai silks and teak wood furnishings. Guests can opt for the ground floor colonial rooms offering direct access to the tiled pool or the two story Lanna-style villas, built in the style of traditional teak rice houses. Dining options range from northern Thai cuisine at Le Grand Lanna to the French fare at Farang Ses.
The indulgent Ayurveda-dedicated pavilion has a dedicated in-house specialist and includes yoga programmes. The culinary academy is a fantastic place to learn how to reproduce Lanna dishes back home. The cultural centre focuses on understanding the history and traditions of the region where local ladies teach children about Lanna handicrafts and traditions. There is also an alpaca and a pony for the kids and two fabulous pools for you to relax and enjoy.

Stay Dhara Dhevi Hotel features 123 rooms grouped in two distinct types; colonial-style suites and traditional Lanna-style villas. All are enormous in size with separate living rooms, bedrooms and private terraces, decked out in hard-carved woodwork, tasteful oriental fabrics and locally-woven rugs. Each colonial-style suite has high ceilings and rich décor of marble, golden teak and Thai Silks. The two story Lanna-style villas have a living area on the ground floor and bedroom above.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Dhara Dhevi Hotel. The hotel has an excellent Lanna kids club offering a diverse programme of activities such as umbrella and fan painting, learning to write their names in Thai, riding water buffalo and planting rice. There is also children's yoga, a library with books, toys and games and babysitting is available.
Dine Guests at the Dhara Dhevi Hotel are spoiled for choice with five restaurants three bars and a cake shop. The Fujian, serves fine dining Cantonese cuisine including dim sum over lunch. The bright, high-ceilinged Allegro serves Italian dishes while Farang Ses features a menu of French classics in opulent surroundings. Set across a series of teak pavilions romantically shaded by flame trees, it's worth enjoying dinner and a cultural show at Thai restaurant Le Grand Lanna.
Relax Spread out in the Dhara Dhevi Hotel’s 60-acre property is an enormous swimming pool and a cozier multi-level pool, flanked by palm trees hanging above the water and a golden tiled outdoor Jacuzzi with views over the rice fields. The extensive Dheva spa has an Ayurveda Specialist to advice on a range of luxurious treatments to include European, North African as well as Asian treatments. There is also a fitness centre, two tennis courts, yoga sessions and a cooking school.
Experience Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand was once the capital of an independent Lanna Kingdom. Dhara Dhevi Hotel can arrange guided tours to the old city; home to hundreds of elaborate Buddhist temples including 14th-century Wat Phra Singh. Activity enthusiasts can go trekking, rafting, take a hill-tribe tour or play golf at Royal Chiang Mai course. Getting there 11-hour international flight to Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Chiang Mai International Airport. The Dhara Dhevi hotel is 15-minutes from the airport.
When to go The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April. The monsoon season traditionally begins in May and lasts through to October, with July to September usually being the time of heaviest rain. The hottest month is April, when temperatures can hit the 40s. The cooler months of November to January will be a good time to travel if you don't like the heat, with the average day temperature slightly below 30°C.
