137 Pillars House is a sophisticated boutique hotel located in the Wat Gate neighbourhood of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Built in the 1880's as part of the East Borneo Company headquarters, this beautiful teak wood building has been carefully restored to reflect its 19th-century origins. Housed within its complex are 30 suites, outfitted in gleaming dark teak and accented with elephant-printed cushions and large celadon urns and beautiful walls thick with jungle-green creeping vines.
Each of the generously-sized suites at the 137 Pillars House has modern comforts of a contemporary hotel and come with veranda or patio overlooking the stunning gardens. Facilities include gourmet dining, a swimming pool, library and an array of spa treatments. Yoga, meditation and a fully equipped gym are available to pamper body and mind. In the immediate surrounds is Wat Gate Khar Rham Temple and Museum while across the river is Doi Suthep, gleaming like a northern star.
Stay The 137 Pillars House features just 30 spacious suites ranging from 70-135 sqm. All are elegantly furnished with enormous antique-style four poster beds, hardwood polished floors and have high ceilings. Rooms open out onto large terraces with expansive daybeds and planter’s rattan rocking chairs. Large bathrooms come with separate indoor /outdoor garden showers, and Victorian baths, while the larger suites have separate living room and their own private plunge pool.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at 137 Pillars House. There are some interconnecting suites which are ideal for families. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.
Dine Guests at the 137 Pillars House have a choice of three separate dining venues. The Palette restaurant, located in the hotel’s original teak homestead dating back to the 1800s, serves light and imaginative menus. The Dining Room serves traditional Lanna and Thai cuisine alongside seasonally inspired international menus which showcase the local organic produce. The Parlour Lounge serves classic high-tea and for sundowners, Jack Bain’s Bar provides perfectly crafted cocktails.
Relax For relaxation, there is a slimline 25-metre lap pool dominated by a jaw-dropping vertical plant wall, with tempting sun-beds dotting the decking. And for ultimate relaxation, 137 Pillars House has a lovely holistic spa, with treatments and beauty rituals that utilise products that are entirely locally sourced and only use organic ingredients for a truly pampered experience. There is also a fully equipped gym with yoga and meditation classes.
Experience Chiang Mai is one of the most culturally rich cities, set in mountainous northern Thailand. The province is the epicentre of outdoor adventures and 137 Pillars House can arrange day excursions to include trekking, biking, rafting and hill-tribe tours. Across the river is Doi Suthep, the city’s temple mountain, with its processional staircase, gold-painted temples and chedis, with glorious views.
