Soneva Kiri

The Soneva Kiri experience starts at the airport in Bangkok. After meet and greet, you are brought to the first-class lounge, while you wait for your passports to be stamped. The short flight on the hotel’s private plane brings you to the island where you are escorted by hotel staff onto the speedboat for a short ride, to the resort – James Bond style!

The whole experience just gets better and better. Soon the stunningly large villas appear in the distance – as if in paradise. But on arrival, you may have to learn how to unwind and learn about the concept of ‘Simple Life’; organic food, healthy living and quietening your mind. Soneva Kiri has 29 oversized pool villas, some fronting a private beach area, others up on the hillside. The rooms are spacious and simple, yet sophisticated with great outside space to relax in or out of the sun.

Dining at Soneva Kiri includes inside a treetop "dining pod", menus created by a Three Michelin Star chef and authentic Thai cuisine. The theme to simplify life is omnipresent everywhere. Free yoga and Pilates classes happen every morning. And, there’s an excellent spa with an extensive menu of stress-relieving treatments. The resort library, assembled by a London curator, has a mix of recent titles and classics, housed in a simple little room.

Stay Soneva Kiri Resort at Koh Kood (Ko Kut) has 29 luxurious villas. Built from local, sustainably sourced timbers and furnished in effortlessly chic style, these are blissful retreats designed to blend in with the landscape. Private swimming pools wrap seductively around the accommodation that range from intimate one-bedroom suites to the palatial five-bedroom Private Beach Reserve. The villas are huge with large decked areas with numerous loungers, day beds and places to relax.

ChildCare As a family-friendly resort, Soneva Kiri has plenty of facilities for kids. The pool villas are spacious enough to house a family with enough space for children to run around. In addition, Soneva Kiri has a specially designed Kid’s Club built as a magical giant bamboo playground. There are loads of activities to keep them occupied. Babysitting services are available on request.

Dine Dining options at Soneva Kiri include menus created by a Three Michelin Star chef ranging from Thai and Mediterranean fare to the wood-fired rock oven and the earthen tandoor. The resorts signature Thai gourmet restaurant serves a nine-course menu in open-air lantern-lit eatery on stilts. But you cannot miss the unique Treepod dining experience that takes to new heights. Comfortably seated in a bamboo pod, you are hoisted high up into the tropical foliage of Koh Kood’s ancient rainforest. For those who are not so keen of heights, can eat at the ‘The View’ with spectacular vistas.

Relax The Soneva Kiri spa has 11 treatment rooms offering treatments locally inspired treatments to the healing therapies of Asia and beyond. Mud massages, Thai herbal baths, silk facials, warm oils of Ayurveda and a rich selection of wellness rituals.

Experience Activities at Soneva Kiri are extensive and range from trekking to snorkelling to biking, the choice is unlimited. Trek or mountain bike in the rainforest or take a 50-minute boat ride to the beautiful islands of Koh Mak and Koh Laoya where you can trek with the elephants and swim under the waterfall. Diving is available in the untouched world of Koh Chang Marine Park that offers two-dozen dive sites down to 30 metres. There is an evening sunset cruise with fine wines.

Location Soneva Kiri is located on a remote Koh Kood island situated on the east coast of Thailand. Koh Kood is the second biggest island of the province of Trat, after Koh Chang, lying at the end of Thai eastern maritime territory bordering Cambodia.

Getting There There are direct (11-hour) international flights from the UK to the Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport. On arrival, you will be greeted by Soneva Kiri’s Private Airport Representative at the gate, escorted through immigration and checked in at Soneva Kiri Counter. You will then board the resort’s custom-fitted eight-seater Cessna Grand Caravan for the 90-minute flight to Koh Mai Si, Soneva Kiri's private airport island. From there it is just a 5-minute speedboat ride to the resort.

When to go The best time to visit most of Thailand is between November and March as this is the coolest time of year. March-Jun brings the hot season when sightseeing is best scheduled for morning or late afternoon. May, September and October are the wettest months and between June and August, you can still visit Bangkok although you will get some rain. During this time, there are fewer tourists and the landscape is lush and green.
