Amanpuri is the very first of Aman’s ultra-luxurious properties, set on a rainforest-covered peninsula in the west of Phuket, in Southern Thailand. Sprinkled along the hillside overlooking the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea are 40 pavilions and 43 villas. The later with a private pool, a driver, a gardener and two maids. A monolithic stone staircase leads down to the dazzling white sands of Pansea beach which can only be accessed via the hotel or by boat effectively keeping it private.
The Amanpuri hotel boasts a great beach club with a private fleet of 20 cruisers and sailing boats for diving, excursions and romantic dinners at sea. Several bars and restaurants in beautiful settings and serving an array of the finest cuisine from across the globe are dotted around the resort. The hotel’s paparazzi-proof location has been enticing celebrities who now come here to take a personalised programme based on one of four themes: cleanse, mental awareness, fitness or weight.
Stay Amanpuri features just 40 pavilions and 43 villas. All pavilions have spacious terraces that look out over the sea and surrounding greenery, an outdoor sala with a sun deck and some have their own private pools. Set on the tip of the peninsula are one to nine-bedroom villas, each with large private pools. Reflecting contemporary Thai style, all pavilions and villas have vaulted ceilings, wooden floors, sliding screen doors and are decorated with local art and artefacts.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Amanpuri. There is a wonderful kids' pool and a children's party which takes place on the beach every afternoon during peak seasons (Christmas and Easter). Babysitting and baby equipment is also available on request.
Dine There are four gourmet restaurants at the Amanpuri. Nama offers Japan's Unesco-recognised tradition of washoku, by serving exquisitely crafted sashimi and sushi. Arva offers heart-warming dishes of Italy with catch of the day, complemented with fresh ingredients from the hotels organic garden. Thai restaurant focuses on authentic recipes with a contemporary twist while The Lounge takes traditional Mexican street food to a new level. For informal dining there is the Beach Club.
Relax Leisure facilities at the Amanpuri include a 27-metre main swimming pool, dazzling white sandy Pansea beach, a hilltop gym with pilates studio and dazzling sea views as well as a stunning spa that radiates serenity thanks to its zen architecture. The new spa programme now focuses so much on individual attention that participation is limited to just eight guests at any one time. There is no detox but a gentle and intelligent steer towards sustainable, long-term balance.
Experience Activities at Amanpuri include daily complimentary yoga and meditation sessions. Down at the beach are complimentary non-motorised watersports including hobie cats, kayaks, windsurfing, body boarding and snorkelling. PADI diving, golf, boat charters with a choice of over 20 sailing and motor vessels and waterskiing can also be arranged. While those booked in for fitness can experience endorphin-releasing kick boxing followed by muscle-releasing rubdowns.

Location Situated above Pansea Beach on the west coast of Phuket Island. Located off the west coast of Kra Isthmus, Phuket Island is 890km south of Bangkok. The island is 50km long and 21km at its widest point. Connected to Thailand’s Phang Nga province by a bridge, Phuket is surrounded by the Andaman Sea, which joins the Indian Ocean to the south.
Getting there 12-hour international flight (change in Bangkok) to Phuket International airport. The travelling time from the airport is around 40 minutes.
When to go Tropical climate and the driest months to visit are December to March. November and April are also good months to visit and you may get some rain, although it is outside of the monsoon season. May to October is the monsoon with downpours occurring once or twice a day, rather than constant rain.
