Tamarind Village is a charming boutique hotel set in the heart of Old Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand. Built around a 200-year old tamarind tree, this collection of buildings with flower-filled courtyards inspired by rural temple cloisters, reflects simple beauty of the Lanna culture. Inside, are just 45 rooms and suites, all decorated with bold fabrics and a flourish of local design. Centrally located it’s close to many interesting sites including Pratat Chedi Luang Temple.

All are simple, chic and stylish in design and decorated in the region’s tribal heritage style; handmade lacquered boxes, embroidered cushions and colourful hill tribe fabrics. While polished concrete floors, white walls and marble bathrooms continue the sense of calm. Standard room amenities include Wi-fi and satellite TV, and bathrooms are stocked with amenities created specifically for Tamarind Village.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Tamarind Village but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.
Dine The in-house Ruen Tamarind restaurant boasts home-style regional specialties with a contemporary twist and a selection of international dishes. Meals are served indoors or outdoors on the pool terrace with café-style ambiance. There is also an ‘Afternoon Tea’ menu featuring sweet and savouries complimented by a wide selection of coffee and tea.
Relax Leisure facilities at the Tamarind Village include a good-sized pool as well as The Tamarind Spa with six treatment rooms. A team of experts use only the finest herbal preparations drawn from the Lanna Thai heritage of natural healing, to provide a number of treatments. Take a Thai massage or cookery course - there’s no better place in the country to learn these arts. The Tamarind Boutique has a selection of contemporary style jewellery, clothing and home accessories.
Experience Tamarind Village offers half and full day excursions to some of Chiang Mai’s most interesting sites. Visit Buddhist temples and rural villages or spend the day exploring the area’s scenic national parks. Those interested in traditional crafts can visit artisan studios or enjoy the very best shopping that Chiang Mai has to offer. Further afield are the ancient cities of Lamphun, Lampang and Chiang Rai. Activities include elephant riding, jungle treks, rock climbing and river rafting.
Location Tamarind Village is situated at the centre of Chiang Mai’s old town, in Northern Thailand.
Getting there 11-hour international flight to Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Chiang Mai International Airport. Tamarind Village is a 30-minute drive from the airport.
When to go The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between October and April. The monsoon season traditionally begins in May and lasts through to October, with July to September usually being the time of heaviest rain. The hottest month is April, when temperatures can hit the 40s. The cooler months of November to January will be a good time to travel if you don't like the heat, with the average day temperature slightly below 30°C.
