Hintok River Camp | Luxury Holidays in Thailand | AwimAway.com

The Hintok River Camp is a rustic tented camp, set along the Khwae Noi River in the Kanchanaburi Province, Western Thailand. It’s located close to Hellfire Pass, named for the many torches that lit the narrow canyon at night for POWs workers to carve out a railway track through rocks during World War II. Also, nearby is the 'Bridge over the River Kwai', that makes it an ideal base for learning about the tragic history of the area, as well as to admire the beautiful countryside.

There are also open-air showers decorated in Thai-safari style.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Hintok River Camp but there are no particular facilities like interconnecting tents available. Families with younger children to please note that the steps down to the natural pool are very steep and the jetty does not have a fence around it.

Dine The in-house restaurant at the Hintok River Camp has a spectacular setting overlooking the river. Dining here is a social affair, with BBQ campfire dinners served in a semi open-air environment. Breakfast and lunch is also served here with a menu focussed on Thai and Asian cuisine with some Western dishes. There is also a well-stocked bar, serving cocktails, beers and spirits.

Relax The exquisite swimming pool at the Hintok River Camp, takes the form of a rock pool, filled with spring water that comes naturally filtered straight from the mountain. There is no spa but traditional Thai massages are on offer at the camp. There is also a small exhibition hall about the history of the area. Alternatively, there are lots of spaces in the surrounding gardens to relax.

Experience The Kanchanaburi town, located in west Thailand is known for the Death Railway, built during WWII. The line crosses over the Khwae Yai, one of the two rivers that flow down from great lakes in the mountainous Burma border region. Take a boat along the river and then walk across the famous 'Bridge over the River Kwai', through Hellfire Pass, and explore the valley with magnificent scenery, flora and bird life. Also visit the Lawa Cave, which has impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
