Wild Grass Nature Resort: Serenity in the Sri Lankan Wilderness

Wild Grass Nature Resort is a luxurious eco-retreat, set amidst the forest between Dambulla and Sigiriya in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The philosophy here is to provide an opportunity for guests to be able to embrace the natural environment. All the wooden villas, with glass walls and doors look out onto the surrounding nature, that is home to an amazing variety of wildlife including elephants, deer, wild boar and over 40 species of birds.

Accommodation in Wild Grass Nature Resort, comprises of just eight, single storey or duplex villas, built with the minimum impact on its natural surroundings. Inside, the décor is minimalistic in style with plush beds, luxurious bathrooms and private sit outs. The highlight however, is its floor to ceiling glass windows that offer delightful views across the jungle canopy. Set away from the villas is an open sided, two-storey pavilion, housing a lounge cum restaurant with mountain views.

The philosophy and passion behind this Wild Grass Nature Resort is for nature conservation. The resort has its own organic farm that supplies much of its produce to the kitchen. Electricity is generated by solar power and nature trails are well-marked to avoid multiple paths and preserve the surrounds. Activities at the resort include walking and biking to local villages for a cultural experience. Day excursions can include elephant safaris in Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks.

Experience The Ancient Cities of Sri Lanka showcase remnants of an architecture and culture that thrived here over 2,500 years ago. Guests at the Wild Grass Nature Resort are well placed to explore Anuradhapura , one of the first cities that was built here, followed by the rock fortress at Sigiriya and the medieval Polonnaruwa. Back at the resort, guests can play badminton or use the resort’s mountain bikes on well-marked walking and biking trails and the surrounding countryside.

Location Located 175 kilometres away from Colombo, the resort is located in Kumbukkadanwala village just 15 minutes’ drive from the famous Sigiriya rock fortress and the Dambulla cave temple.

Getting there 10-hour 50-minute direct flight to Bandaranaike International Airport north of Colombo. It then takes 4 hours to drive from the airport to the area.

When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry. The central hills remain cooler all year and the only months we'd recommend avoiding are October and November when rainfall is less predictable.
