Sanctuary Ananda – Luxurious Cruise on the Irrawaddy

Sanctuary Ananda, nestled along the scenic Irrawaddy River in Myanmar, epitomises traditional elegance blended with modern comforts. The architecture of this boutique hotel exudes Burmese charm, featuring intricate teak woodwork and ornate carvings that reflect the region's rich heritage. The décor within Sanctuary Ananda is a testament to luxurious craftsmanship. Each area of the hotel is adorned with locally sourced materials, including delicate silks and handmade artefacts, providing an authentic touch to the interiors. The communal spaces are thoughtfully designed to offer a sense of opulence while maintaining an inviting and homely atmosphere, encouraging relaxation and social interaction.

Comfort is paramount at Sanctuary Ananda, with an emphasis on creating a serene and restful experience for every guest. The hotel boasts a variety of serene lounges and outdoor terraces, allowing visitors to unwind and take in the breathtaking river views. The inclusion of a well-appointed library and a spacious sun deck ensures that every guest can find their perfect spot to relax, enhancing the overall sense of peace and well-being.
 


Stay Sanctuary Ananda has 21 spacious suites spread out over three decks include four Luxury staterooms (33 sqm) and one signature Owner's Suite (67 sqm). All are wonderfully decorated with contemporary chic silks, Malaika Egyptian-cotton sheets, polished teak and lavish bathrooms. Each has double or twin beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, iPads and complimentary Wi-Fi. There is air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms with a monsoon shower, and full balconies.

ChildCare Families with children of 10 years old and over are welcome to stay on board the Sanctuary Ananda. Child amenities such as cots and high chairs are available upon request and there are two pairs of interconnecting rooms available. The four Luxury suites have additional indoor seating areas and third convertible beds for children. Two pairs of interconnecting cabins are also available for families. 

Dine There are two restaurants and a bar aboard the Sanctuary Ananda. Enjoy al fresco breakfast and lunch buffets, as well as a la carte options in the Mindoon Restaurant. Dinner is in the Talifoo restaurant on Bagan Deck that serves tasty Burmese a la carte dishes plus Italian cuisine with soft drinks, local beers and selected wines available on the house. There is also Burma Bar that serves tea, coffee, fruit smoothies and alcoholic drinks.

Relax Kansi Panorama Lounge with picture windows offering uninterrupted river views makes it a perfect place to relax aboard the Sanctuary Ananda. Sign up for lectures or demonstrations and you'll be enlightened in pure, air-conditioned comfort. Other facilities on the vessel include the Thambayadine Spa by L'Occitane, where local treatments and massages are available, in partnership with L'Occitane. Other facilities include a gym, library and swimming pool.

Experience Activities offered on-board the Sanctuary Ananda include Balloon over Bagan between October and March, visits to small handicraft-making villages and exploring stunning hill-top pagodas. On board activities include local performances, cultural demonstrations, and cooking demonstrations whilst excursions on-shore include the temples of Bagan.

Location The cruise takes you from Bagan to Mandalay or vice versa along the Ayeyarwady and Chindwin rivers.

Getting there All cruises start or finish in Bagan, Mandalay, Yangon or Pyay, all of which are accessible by air except Pyay which is accessible by road.

When to go The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
