Road To Mandalay – Luxury River Cruise in Myanmar

Belmond Road to Mandalay runs cruise journeys from Jan to Mar and then Sept through Jan and last between 2 to 4 nights. It also heads north; near the Chinese border that is perhaps the highlight of the trip. There is a large pool on deck where you can take refreshing dips and soak up the sun as you float past green hillsides dotted with Buddhist temples, their gold-domed pagodas glowing in the afternoon light so wonderfully unique to this region.

The cabins are luxurious than what you would expect for a ship. There is a comfortable king size bed, a writing desk, plasma TV with satellite channels, a modern bathroom and separate toilet. Those who want more space can book the Governor's Suite. This has been newly created to satisfy the most demanding guest’s requirements. It is ideal for passengers who embark on seven or eleven-night journeys as its space and views enchant your discovery of this magical land.

A typical day, aboard the Belmond Road to Mandalay starts with coffee and tea served in your room. The elaborate breakfast is on upper deck and includes fresh local fruits. During the day, are land excursions, travelling by various types of transport, from coach to bullock or horse carts. It was the only way, but the experiences from it were exciting and memorable. You can hire a private guide with a car and explore at leisure.

Stay The M/V Belmond Road to Mandalay has 56 en-suite cabins. These are grouped in five cabin categories. All rooms face out to the water, offering wonderful views through large windows. Room amenities include satellite TV, an iPod docking station, air-conditioning, generous closet space and spacious en-suite bathrooms with locally made soaps. The luxurious Governor’s Suite provides further space with its separate sitting area along with a butler service and complimentary mini bar.

Dine Dining at the Belmond Road to Mandalay is at the alfresco Bar & Grill Restaurant, situated on the Observation Deck. Breakfast is buffet style while themed lunches and gourmet dinners feature Southeast Asian, Indian and European cuisine. The Bar serves complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks. The dress was smart casual, some men wore jackets while most did not. The passengers were casual in their attitude and mingled freely, sharing others tables for meals.

Relax Life aboard the Belmond Road to Mandalay is a mix of adventure and luxury. You can relax around the swimming pool on the top deck, or in the Observation Lounge whilst taking in the views through the large windows. There is a fitness room and a beauty room with massage service, facial or pedicure in the beauty area. Evening entertainment includes regional dances in the lounge and live music in the Piano Bar.

Experience All through your journey on Belmond Road to Mandalay, it is Bagan that will remain your most memorable. There are thousands of temples and the best way to understand these is to hire an intelligent private guide who will bring sense to what appears to be a jumble to an unknown mind. The beauty of Bagan is in its landscape, best realised from the air on a hot air balloon. If there is time, then hit the road on a push bike to get the most authentic Myanmar experience.
