The Hotel at Tharabar Gate - Tranquil Oasis in Bagan

The Tharabar Gate Hotel, is located in front of the legendary gate of the 10th-century city of Bagan. It has 84 luxury rooms including 4 suites. Every room is large and spacious with comfortable beds decorated with teak floors and typical Burmese furniture. Some rooms have a small terraced area for relaxing. All the rooms are fully air-conditioned and feature modern facilities with mini bar and a private Garden. If you are travelling in summer we recommend a room near the pool, perfumed by the frangipani trees surrounding the pool.

The Hotel offers two dining choices, one in the French Garden and the open-air Ananda Restaurant, with the option to dine in your room available 24 hours a day. Located close to the historical sites and stunning temples including the impressive Ananda, it is a good base to explore Bagan. Bicycles can be hired from the hotel should you wish to explore the surrounds and visit more distant ruins.

Visit the historical Tharabar Gate, once part of the twelve gates that guarded the old city. Although now in ruins, you can still appreciate the enormity of its size and the importance it might have had 12 centuries ago. On your return, experience the spa with signature treatments from Myanmar and Thailand, perfect for reviving tired muscles.

Thai massage uses a firm pressure on your body and the masseuse will generally stand on your back and walk over your ankles, legs. Surprisingly, it is very relaxing.

Experience The highlight of Tharabar Gate hotel is of course its location. Bicycles can be hired from the hotel and we ventured off in search of some of the more distant ruins to explore at our own pace. Not far from the hotel we came across the stunning temples including and not-to-be-missed, the impressive Ananda.

Location The Hotel at Tharabar Gate is located near the spectacular Ananda Temple known as ‘the Jewel of Bagan’. Ideally situated right in front of the legendary gate of the 10th century city of Bagan, it is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding temples and the nearby archaeological zone.

Getting There Yangon airport has undergone a major renovation and facilitates both international and domestic terminals. Bagan Nyaung Oo airport is easily accessible by air from Yangon. The Hotel at Tharabar Gate is located a few minutes’ drive from the airport.

When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is between October and April when the weather is dry and not so hot. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
