The Thiripyistaya Sanctuary Resort is situated on the banks of the legendry Irrawaddy. It sprawls over 24 acres of landscaped gardens, which is home to mature tropical trees and flowering plants, as well as native birds and a number of small tame animals. Oriented towards the west, the Resort revels in panoramic river views, glorious sunsets and silver moonglow, and a pervading atmosphere of profound peace, warmth and comfort.
The bungalow-style rooms at Thiripyistaya Sanctuary Resort, come with either garden or river views. All the rooms are furnished with a mini-bar, air-conditioning, satellite television, kimonos and hair dryers. We recommend the deluxe river view rooms that have huge picture windows, which look out to the Irrawaddy River and a private veranda. Those looking for more space can book the spacious luxury suite. These have a private veranda from which to view dramatic sunsets.
The facilities at the hotel include a number of dining options, serving Myanmar (Burmese), Asian and Western dishes. The Thiripyitsaya Spa, offers a range of massages and treatments and Vipassana method of meditation is conducted by a Buddhist monk. To relax, there is an enormous swimming pool with a Pavilion Lounge to keep you hydrated. In the day, experience the bustling Nyaung Oo market or explore Bagan’s noted pagodas. Then enjoy a sunset cruise on the Irrawaddy river.

The Superior Rooms, facing the Irrawaddy River are the basic. The Deluxe Room come in three types: Classic, Garden and River View rooms. Classic rooms boast of views of a Stupa and the Meditation Garden. Garden View Rooms look out to the landscaped gardens and River View Rooms look out to the Irrawaddy River. Each has a private veranda with lounging chairs. The suites are housed in villas located far away from the reception to ensure privacy.
ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Thiripyistaya Sanctuary Resort, but there are no specific facilities available. Babysitting can be arranged, if requested.
Dine The main restaurant at the Thiripyistaya Sanctuary Resort, has a large terrace overlooking the pool and the Irrawaddy river, offers alfresco all-day dining. The Verandah serves breakfast in the morning and transforms into a romantic dining venue at night. Royal Dinners at the Pagoda Garden complete with an option of donning Myanmar royal costumes. The Pavilion Lounge is a perfect spot for enjoying a sundowner or a relaxing night cap.
Relax The Thiripyistaya Spa menu offers massages, body treatments, wraps and scrubs. You can have these either in the spa building, or at the outdoor spa on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Whatever time you spend here, you will never be far from the archaeological sites and the beautiful views of the Irrawaddy. There is also an enormous swimming pool.
Experience Located near the archaeological zone, there is much to do here. Thiripyistaya Sanctuary Resort can arrange day tours to explore the Bagan temples or visit a local village by a horse cart. In the absence of roads and traffic, it remains the normal mode of transport in the area. For the same reason, bike tours are becoming more popular. We recommend an intelligent guide to understand the history and story of these temples. Later, try balloon ride to get a different perspective.
Location Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary resort in Bagan, is set astride the Irrawaddy river and on the edge of the archaeological zone. The resort boasts glorious sunsets with panoramic river views and dew-covered landscape gardens at sunrise. Driving from the airport you will see numerous important pagodas and monuments on the way to the resort.
Getting There Yangon airport has undergone a major renovation and facilitates both international and domestic terminals. Bagan Nyaung Oo airport is easily accessible by air from Yangon. Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort is located a few minutes’ drive from the airport.
When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is between October and April when the weather is dry and not so hot. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
