Amara Ocean Resort is a boutique resort, set on the pristine Ngapali Beach, on Myanmar’s southern coast fronting the Andaman Sea. Nestled within a palm grove, the resort features 26 wooden bungalows, all-purpose built in traditional style and elegantly furnished with modern fittings. Situated north of Thadwe Airport, rather than the south where most hotels are located, it enjoys a secluded and a far superior beach, perfect for those who like to relax and explore the surrounds.
Amenities
Stay Amara Ocean Resort has just 24 bungalows and two twin-bedroom bungalows. All are purpose built in traditional style on stilts, with thatch roofs and scattered across a wide palm grove along the beach. Inside, the décor is minimalist and contemporary in style with plush furnishings and modern en suite bathrooms. All are spacious in size (70 sqm) and come with a 40 sqm terrace. Guests can choose from either a Sea View Bungalow in the second row back, or a Beach Front Bungalow.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Amara Ocean Resort but there are no specific facilities available for children.
Dine There is one main restaurant at the Amara Ocean Resort set on a large terrace overlooking the ocean. The menus comprise of Asian and Mediterranean cuisine and meals are prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from their own organic garden. Meals are served in the dining room or on the terrace accompanied by a selection of fine wines. Being near the ocean, the daily catch of the day and sea food takes prominence in the menu. There is also a well-stocked Ungbin Bar.
Relax Facilities at the Amara Ocean Resort include a large outdoor swimming pool with a nice sun terrace and plenty of deck chairs for relaxing by the water, a small spa and wellness centre. The hotel’s beach is private and is exclusive to hotel guests, which means it is quiet, unspoiled and very relaxing. There is also a small library with TV and a boutique.
Experience Guests come to Ngapali Beach to relax and to enjoy its natural beauty towards the end of their trip to Myanmar. Amara Ocean Resort can organise boat trips to nearby islands or along the mangrove river; hiking and cycling through the villages or visit the nearby Tilawkasayambhu Buddha, situated on a hilltop. You can also visit the fishing village of Jate Taw, to experience local life and hire their boat for fishing tuna, barracuda or mackerel. There is also good birdwatching in the forest.
Location Located to the north of Thandwe Airport, the Amara is very much located on its own stretch of beach away from the main tourist area to the south.
Getting there 15-hour flight (via Bangkok) to Yangon. Sandoway Resort is a 45-minute flight from Yangon, followed by a 30-minute drive from Thandwe airport.
When to go The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
