Auruem Resorts at Governors Residence - Colonial Luxury in Myanmar

Aureum Resort is housed in a restored British Governor’s Residence, set in the old colonial hill station of Maymyo, now known as Pyin Oo Lwin, in Central Myanmar. The resort comprises of 40 rooms set in bungalows and the central Governor’s House which comprises of five rooms, a private dining room and an indoor swimming pool. The resort is a popular weekend getaway, famous for some truly spectacular hill trekking and for those who like to experience rural Myanmar.

Stay Auruem Resorts at Governor’s Residence features 40 rooms in two distinct parts. There is a 35-room complex perched on the side of the hill which incorporate 34 deluxe rooms in bungalows and a Presidential suite with a private swimming pool. Rooms are beautifully furnished and have modern fittings. At the top of the hill is the restored British Governor’s Residence, which has five rooms, ideal for a large party. It has a colonial-style dining room, bar and indoor swimming pool.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Auruem Resorts in Pyin Oo Lwin but there are no specific facilities available for children. All rooms are spacious for an extra bed but those seeking more space can book the Presidential Suite. Larger families or groups can consider booking the Governor’s Residence.

Dine The in-house restaurant at the Auruem Resorts by Governor’s Residence, in centrally located on a terrace with beautiful mountain views. The menu comprises a fusion of traditional and Western dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients including their own organic farm. 

Relax The Aureum features a centrally located restaurant and bar. There is an indoor Swimming Pool for Presidential Suite and Governor's House only.

Experience Experience the colonial hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin on Auruem Resort’s own horse-drawn carriages, which is a popular form of transport in town. One of the highlights is the beautiful botanical gardens named National Kandawgyi Gardens, home to a wide variety of colourful flora and fauna, including gibbons and takin, goat-antelopes that are native to the Himalayas. To the east are the Pwe Gauk falls, which are a series of small waterfalls and great place for a day out picnic.
 


 

Location Pyin Oo Lwin, or Maymyo as it was once known is located about 2 hours from Mandalay and accessed via train or car.

Getting there Fly to Mandalay and take a two-hour drive to the Aureum.

When to go The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March, and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
