The Savoy Hotel in Yangon is a colonial boutique hotel, ideally located in the picturesque area of Yangon, overlooking the Shwedagon Pagoda. The original building was built in the 1920’s for a Physician from the USA embassy. In 1998, it was extended to accommodate the bedrooms while the original building sympathetically converted for reception, bars, lounges, and the various restaurants keeping all the original major features including the teak staircase.
All 30 deluxe rooms and suites at the Savoy Hotel in Yangon, express the charm of “the old days” with traditional Myanmar antiques, teak furniture and spacious bathrooms. Wherever you go you will catch glimpses of times past, but it is the hospitality and friendliness of the people, which is most striking that comes with heartfelt smiles. The hallways, and rooms and public areas are immaculate with polished wooden floors and stocked with handicrafts, old pictures and photographs.
The hotel’s surrounding area isn’t large but it has a decent size marble swimming pool, which is shaded by leafy trees creating a silent oasis in the middle of the bustling city. Indeed, the entire experience at The Savoy Hotel in Yangon is framed by quietude. The Kipling Restaurant serves both Asian and Western fare and the Captain’s Bar has wide range of spirits and wines. In the surrounds is the Shwedagon Pagoda, best visited at dawn.

These spacious air-conditioned rooms are generously furnished in colonial-style furniture, with polished wood flooring, large en-suite bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows. For a truly indulgent stay, opt for one of the hotel’s six Executive Suites, which feature their own kitchenettes, Juliet balconies, and claw foot bathtubs. ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at The Savoy Hotel in Yangon, but there are no specific facilities available. Babysitting service can be arranged, if requested.

The hotel can organise a day tour that generally starts with the post office, passing through the middle of downtown. Explore Little India and Chinatown, a colourful cacophony of restaurants, temples and markets. Later, visit some of most important pagodas, such as 70-metre high Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda.

Getting There Yangon airport has undergone a major renovation and facilitates both international and domestic terminals. There is no accommodation in the immediate vicinity of the airport. The easiest way to get to and from the airport to the city is by taxi. The Savoy is a 10-minute drive from the city centre and 20-minutes to the International Airport.
When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is between October and April when the weather is dry and not so hot. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
